Meet Jennifer Posey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Posey.

Jennifer, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always been a creative of some sort, all my life. I entered art contests as a child, and I loved to draw and write stories, poems, etc. I was always obsessed with interior design and decorating and knew when I grew up. I would be living in New York City as a well known interior decorator. My tv is always set to HGTV when I actually have the chance to sit down and watch it. I watch all the things related to decorating, fixing up, and making pretty.

I am a wife, mother of 3 and I work a full-time job. Needless to say, my nights, weekends and lunch breaks are pretty full with all things related to my art and keeping up with the business “stuff.”

I am 13 months into this journey and am loving my busy life, although finding balance is difficult. I can not imagine NOT being able to create. It’s my release, my stress reliever, my place to escape from the world and get lost in my creative imagination.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a furniture artist. I started painting furniture about four years ago, for personal use. When I was approached in December 2017 to paint a piece of furniture for someone else, I thought that maybe my “hobby” was meant for more. I created social media accounts for my new side “job” and started to put my work out there for others to see. I began receiving requests almost instantly for custom paint finishes, all while painting and reselling furniture that I had rescued from the dump or sitting in an attic somewhere.

I love creating pieces of art on furniture. I look at my furniture as a giant canvas and push myself with each new piece to create something different and unique. With every piece, I come closer to developing my style; something that is unique to me as an artist. I’ve recently started trying my hand at canvas art, pushing myself again to find my own style that years from now, people will instantly recognize my furniture and canvas art as my work.

I have a bi-weekly paint show with another furniture artist in Kansas.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I think the role of artists is the same. Artists should inspire others, artistically, and nothing more. I don’t let negative events change how I create or display my vision. When I look at a piece of furniture, I let the furniture speak to me. I envision how I want to paint it, and most of the time, it changes midway. The piece will usually evolve on its own and guide me to a creative break through.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I sell my art mainly online. I have done one local expo and have signed up for another in April of this year in Big Spring, Texas called A Joyful Season. My art studio is in my home, so if someone local wants to view my pieces before purchase, they come to my studio. Most of what I sell is solely online, unseen in person.
