Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Lewis.
Jeremy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the Co-Founder of the Kyle Cares Amoeba Awareness Foundation. On August 29th of 2010, our awesome little man Kyle Lewis went to be with our Father in heaven. One week prior to the 29th we took a family vacation to the river and lake where Kyle came in contact with the Amoeba. It entered through his nose and attached to his brain stem and began its path of utter destruction and devastation. We took him to the emergency room on a Wednesday night around 9:00 Pm and he was gone the following Sunday at 11:00 AM. It was the worst four days of our lives. You are not supposed to outlive your kids, yet here we are. We live the rest of our life without him, our lives myself, my wife and 17 year old daughter Peyton are forever hanged by this tragic and devastating event. We founded Kyle Cares in hopes of saving other lives from feeling this pain that we live with every day. We hold Golf tournaments as well as baseball tournaments every year to raise money for further research and medication that we have made available in many hospitals across the U.S. I would say that is our greatest accomplishment to date.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. We have to live the rest of our days without our Little Man.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Kyle Lewis Amoeba Awareness Foundation – what should we know?
We are very proud of the lives that we have saved so far with our Awareness outreach program. There is no way to know exactly how many people our story has affected. Our hope is that once people hear our story the will make the decision to either put a nose plug on and or stay out of lakes and rivers. At the end of the day on swim one day on and in the water is not worth your loved ones life.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
All of our help, volunteers and family who help us through every day and all the events that we put on and attend.
