Meet Jeremy Rodriguez of Flawless Faces in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Rodriguez.

Jeremy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I was always a very artistic child. I loved coloring, drawing, painting and anything that had to do with art and color. When I turned 15 I was always mesmerized watching my mom do her own makeup. So whenever she’d go out for the night I’d sneak into her room and grab her makeup and lock myself into the bathroom and apply it on myself. Then eventually I started doing it on my sister and my cousins. It was fun for me. Fast forward to 2013. I was sick of working at jobs I absolutely hated, nothing interested me and I had no desire to work another boring job. Until I got a call one day from my cousin who told me about a position that opened up where she worked, and what do you know it was a makeup related position for a manager for Estée Lauder. I immediately applied for the position and within the next day after 3 interviews I secured the job and it was mine. Working for Estée Lauder really set the bar high for me. During that time makeup really was not popular where I lived. And it was my job and in my interest to change that. I was required to meet a daily sales goal weekly, I started offering full face makeovers with $50 purchase of products. Doing makeup just came naturally to me. Eventually word got around and everyone started talking about the guy at Estée Lauder who did amazing makeup transformations. Everyone fell in love with everything I did on them that they would buy every single product I used on them. I was definitely over exceeding my sales goal weekly and was number 1 in top sales consistently within the West Texas area from El Paso, Lubbock, Odessa, Midland, Pecos, Andrews and New Mexico. I built my client Rolodex from 0 to 2,000 in a year. I was on a mission. I accomplished so much working for Estée Lauder and I loved what I was doing that I wanted to venture off and work as a freelance makeup artist, and that is exactly what I did. I became the go-to local celebrity makeup artist in Odessa. I was booked 5 days a week everyday back to back. I was finally doing something that I loved. Gods timing was perfect and the blessings were flowing. Everywhere I went women and girls of all ages and races would come up to me and ask for a photo with me and confess their love for me and my art and how inspired they were by me. Being one of the first makeup artist in Odessa just worked. It started at the right time and everything panned out how it was supposed to. From being booked every week and weekend to having 12 sold out makeup workshop seminars and getting so much love from hundreds of girls. I was living the dream. Here I am still going strong and now recently relocated 5 hours from my hometown Odessa and now in the big city of Dallas! The sky is the limit and my work is never done. I accomplished so much in Odessa I made my mark and made my name known and inspired hundreds. Now a new chapter begins in a new city. Now watch me work!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is smooth but occasionally you will have some bumps along the way maybe even some potholes. But you have to learn to maneuver past those bumps and holes in order to reach your destination. Being one of the top makeup artist and not only being on top but being the very best at what you do you are bound to get hate from others simply because they envy what you do or want to do what you do. Like they said if you don’t have haters you ain’t doing something right? Right? But it’s your job to avoid every negative situation that comes your way and sometimes that may be completely impossible to do but you have to do it. Never get distracted with the hate of others. Smile, Be Kind, Be Humble, stay committed to your goal and keep your faith in God and your haters will never see you sweat!

What sets me apart from the rest is simple. I am true to myself and who I am and my brand. My specialty, Transformations. I love for every woman who sits in my chair to feel beautiful. I do this by enhancing what they already have into something more glamorous. I tweak it a little and contour their nose a little smaller, make their faces look more lifted and give them an instant brow lift. My ability to keep up with the latest beauty trends and keep up with the latest makeup techniques to give every client what they need or want is also what sets me apart from the rest. The art of makeup is constantly changing, constantly growing and it’s our jobs as artists to evolve as well.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Staying grounded. Staying focused and truly committed to the craft. Never steer away from what you love and Evolve when it’s time to evolve.
