Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Joyner
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What a long, strange trip it’s been… and it’s far from over.
I was born on April 20, 1960, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and as an Army brat, I grew up moving from place to place, attending numerous schools before graduating from Bossier High School in 1978. After a year at Louisiana Tech, I realized college wasn’t my path, so I dove headfirst into sales—if it could be sold, I probably sold it. Mobile homes, stereos, automobiles, oilfield equipment—you name it.
In the late ‘80s, I made my way to Dallas and spent over a decade in the printing business. Then, life took a pivotal turn when I met Sara Beth, my beautiful wife and business partner. Together, we embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, building a company that has provided visual communications services to healthcare systems and corporations nationwide for over two decades.
A chance moment in Willie Nelson’s backyard ten years ago sparked a creative streak that led me to write a couple of songs. That inspiration snowballed into the launch of Weed And Whiskey TV, a streaming network that blended my love for storytelling and cannabis culture. In late 2024, the network was acquired by a publicly traded company.
Now, I’m focused on developing an exciting slate of shows and films with an up and coming creative genius, Andrew White, under the NHuS3 Media banner. And because I never do just one thing at a time, I’m also a co-founder of The Buzz Brands, a THC consumer packaged goods company, alongside Antonio Swad, the visionary behind WingStop and Pizza Patron.
The journey continues, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve followed the trails blazed by others along with blazing a few myself. Proud to say taking on the most challenging roads, that are full of obstacles and challenges, are much more rewarding than smooth sailing down a super highway.
I’m a plain talker and straight shooter and in a half a century of being in business, I’ve learned that many speak with a forked tongue and to avoid them. Today, now more than ever, it’s important to find people that you can, with a spit and handshake, do good business with. Be a person that lives by his word and work with people that are the same.
Biggest struggle was learning to accept that when I wake up each morning, I am my biggest competitor, and my attitude of gratitude will fuel my success. If it were easy, would it be worth it? Embrace and overcome your obstacles, it’s all part of growing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What do I do? Simply put—I entertain, I advocate, and I sell.
Known as J-Man, I’m a TV and radio personality who’s been seen and heard coast to coast as an outspoken advocate for cannabis. Sales has always been in my DNA—from selling fresh produce door-to-door in the early ‘70s to now leveraging my media platform to reach a much larger audience.
What sets me apart? I don’t just sell advertising—I sell products. Every brand or product that wants to work with us goes through a personal vetting process because my goal isn’t just to place ads; it’s to drive real results. As Don Draper famously put it, “The goal is not to sell advertising, the goal is to sell products.” That philosophy is at the core of what I do.
At the end of the day, my biggest reward is making people smile—whether through my energy on screen, my advocacy work, or the connections I create between great products and the right buyers. Seeing people light up when they engage with what I do? That’s what keeps me going.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck? I’d say I’m always in it.
As they say in Willie Nelson’s imaginary town of Luck, Texas, “If you’re not in Luck, you’re out of Luck.” I’m fortunate to carry a Luck ring from there on my finger, so in my mind, I’m always in Luck.
I remember an old song that went, “If it weren’t for bad luck, we’d have no luck at all—gloom, despair, and agony on me.” What a terrible outlook! Nobody wants bad luck.
So, what is luck, really? Some say it’s when preparation and perseverance meet, and I believe there’s truth in that. But for me, luck is meeting my soulmate—my wife, business partner, and best friend, Sara Beth.
Some guys define luck as fame and fortune. My luck? It’s the person I wake up next to, the one I hold at night, and the one who shares every high and low with me. That’s the kind of luck that truly matters.
