Meet Jesse Davalos of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Davalos.

Hi Jesse, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello im Jesse Lee Davalos a color and black and gray realism and large scale anime artist from Dallas Texas and i co own a studio that serves the Forney and surrounding areas named Royal circle tattoo studio so I got into art early it help silence alot of outside noise and keep me out of trouble while I definitely did my fair share it was definitely a anchor for me coming from someone who only dreamed of going to places I seen on tv and in magazines to being able to travel the world off of what I love motivated me and constantly reminds me me of how blessed I am to be where I’m at in life and my career

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all I grew up in some shitty situations but we had to make the good out of a bad thing from losing one of best friend to overdosing a family that was loving but definitely had its own battles and really some stuff I can talk about some I can’t but I grew up fast becoming a dad at the age of 16 made it to where I was just doing what i got to do to survive as a young father to get by that just wants the best in his world for his two kids and wife I’ve dealt with it all tattoo shop brawls long nights were I’m only home for a hour or two cause I’m building a dream losing family and friends to my work ethic and realizing alot of people in this industry support u until you start doing your own thing when I opened the shop I cut my grass short alot of people came together to help and alot of people I used to laugh with and worked around in the past got revealed as snakes in the grass but in this industry you learn to keep your circle small

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in color and black and gray but I do color realism and large scale anime I definitely tattoo the in between stuff aslong as it’s custom but when you have kids you learn not to leave no food on the table I definitely am known for solid work I’m proud that I’m growing constantly and I think what sets me apart is I treat people like human we all get tattooed for a reason we all want something on us for a point in time from something that looks good to something that means the world to us that tattoo means something and I love the connection you make with your artist a good tattoo has to have good memories or your just another fish in a big sea

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I don’t define success by financial freedom but more along the lines of being able to wake up everyday not sad that I got to go to work i genuinely love what I do so it doesn’t feel like work and off of the work I do I’m able to meet people travel the world but I’m constantly building I owe my success to my wife and kids and my team and some friendly competition
