Meet Jesse Scroggins of Jesse Scroggins Photography in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Scroggins.

Jesse, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Photography is a blend of two of my favorite things, Art and Science. My first introduction to the medium was an elective photography course in high school. After developing my own film and prints in a dark room, I was hooked, but I didn’t know it would become anything more than a hobby.

I attended the Art Institute of Dallas, and went on to become a Graphic Designer. A few years later, I was approached by Amanda Jackson (who is now my wife) about taking some dance portraits for her and her friend. At this time in my life, I didn’t even own a camera, but my roommate Blake had an early model Nikon DSLR that he let me borrow.

Shortly after, I decided I needed to buy my own equipment, and I started doing commissioned photography in my spare time. Almost a decade and thousands of photos later, I still love it. I always enjoy being able to meet and collaborate with other great artists when I can.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Overall it has been quite smooth. I have a full-time job as a Senior Designer for a company in Dallas that requires me to travel often, so I only do photography in my spare time. At times my schedule will not allow me to take on any extra work, so, unfortunately, I have to turn some potential customers down. That part is never easy. Last year I quit doing weddings due to this very reason.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jesse Scroggins Photography – what should we know?
I have done portraits, events, weddings, architecture, and landscapes, but I’ve had the most experience with dance photography. Capturing fast moving dancers at a precise moment in time can be very difficult, and often you only get one chance to nail the shot. Recently I signed a contract with a publishing company to use one of my photographs on the cover of a textbook for teaching college dance.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife, friends, and family have always been very supportive. All of my clients have contributed some part to my success as a photographer. Without them, I would not be doing this.
