Meet Jessica Bookout of Lovely Fitzgerald Photography in The Colony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Bookout.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband bought me my first camera back in 2009 after our first son was born and I quickly fell in love with photography. As I continued to learn and grow my photography skills, I became really passionate about newborn photography specifically. I love working in a studio with newborns and creating custom setups for parents that tell their unique story and reflects their personality.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a pretty smooth road, just slow and steady. Being self-taught, I struggled with self-confidence in the early days. But, after taking a few hands-on photography workshops the light really clicked and I was able to develop my own unique style. I also had two more babies, so working around my kids three schedules have been a bit of a challenge, but this career has allowed me to stay home and be present most of the time while owning my own business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lovely Fitzgerald Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in newborn portraits and we are a full-service studio, meaning we help design products for our customers. We have consultations with our clients before the session to learn their unique personalities and customize each session for that particular family. We also talk a lot about the end result. If we are designing an album we will do a lot of detail shots and creative setups. If we are wanting a large piece for over the mantle or crib we need to take the home decor into consideration. With a degree in Interior Design, I love designing wall galleries for my clients that accentuate and compliment their spaces. Another unique aspect about our portraits is we include complimentary hair and makeup for our clients as well as a selection of custom gowns to choose from.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and grow has been important to my success. I also think that really listening to my clients and what they want instead of just doing what I want creatively is the key to a successful portrait. As a photographer, I have to remember that these portraits are for the family, not me.

Pricing:

  • Our session fee is $250 and includes hair and makeup as well as access to our prop and wardrobe selection.
  • Our collections start at $775, but we also offer A la Carte products.
