Meet Jessica Doherty of Social Bee Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Doherty. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Jessica Doherty

The story started way back in 2000 at Gunn Jr. High in Arlington, TX. Both of us were slightly awkward, as most 12-year-olds are, but we seemed to have the same vibe and, from then on, were stuck together. Through the years, we grew up, started families, and had a ton to celebrate along the way. Our favorite pastime was throwing these memorable events. I know for sure neither one of us thought we could actually do it for a living. We were both working jobs in hospitality in 2019, and in early 2020, Jessica decided to strike out on her own with a little side catering business doing mostly grazing tables. Quickly realizing that I couldn’t do it on my own, I roped DeAnna into the business with me, and it was going pretty well. Cue Covid… Needless to say, the parties stopped, we were laid off from our former employers, and we had some time on our hands. We decided to use the time to really get our business started and dive headfirst into entrepreneurship. Over the past few years, we have had some really high highs and pretty fair lows. Starting your own business is a lot about finding yourselves and although we don’t have it all figured out, we have come really far.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road??? I wouldn’t call it smooth. We started this business at 32 with three children apiece and no capital other than what we would use from the few clients that we had. We definitely started out thinking we wanted to do only grazing tables and then fell in love with the overall planning and organizing of events. You make a ton of mistakes in the beginning. Lucky for us, it didn’t cost us too badly, but the lessons learned are invaluable in the way we run our business today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
At Social Bee Events, we’re dedicated to transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary experiences. Specializing in event planning and design, we offer a range of services tailored to create unforgettable occasions that reflect the unique vision and personality of each client.

What sets us apart is our commitment to sustainability and innovation, ensuring that every event we create leaves a positive impact on both our clients and the environment.

We take pride in our ability to seamlessly blend creativity, elegance, and eco-consciousness to deliver exceptional events that exceed expectations.

From intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations, we’re here to bring your dreams to life and leave a lasting impression. Our clients are people that value design and an experience that’s is as memorable as it is sustainable.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people don’t know how small of a business we truly are. We clean up well for events, but most of the time, you can find us filling 500 envelopes, cutting 7lbs of cheese into perfect shapes, or building a backdrop until 1 am. We hire help for events, but most of the work is split between the 2 of us. We actually had to create a rule to not be doing the same thing at the same time to keep the process moving. The honest truth is that when we have a vision, we will make it work together.
