Meet Jessica Harrod of Chisholm Challenge Horse Show in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Harrod.

On January 8-10, 2018, Fourteen North Texas Area Therapeutic Riding Centers will participate in the 15th year of Chisholm Challenge. The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo has once again graciously donated the John Justin Arena, as well as many other amenities for Chisholm Challenge. This affords the competitors the opportunity to have a venue to showcase their abilities as equestrian athletes.

The show begins with Equestrians with Disabilities competing in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) events including Showmanship, Walk and Trot Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat, Walk and Jog Western Horsemanship, Walk, Trot/Jog Trail Horse Class, a canter/lope Hunt, Western and Trail class. The AQHA show is open to the public and Chisholm Challenge would like to thank AQHA for recognizing and supporting these competitors. The show continues with riders competing in events such as English Equitation, Western Equitation, Western Riding, Showmanship, Barrels, Pole Bending, Drill Team, Driving and Trail. All participating centers are PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International) member centers. This ensures that all competitors have certified instructors, trained horses and recognize and respect all safety requirements. Each center is expected to adhere to the Chisholm Challenge and PATH rules and regulations during this competition.

Chisholm Challenge exists and continues to grow due to the remarkable individuals who donate time and talents. We are extremely proud of the fact that everyone who coordinates and works at our shoe is a volunteer. These wonderful people see with their hearts and genuinely believe in the competitors. A BIG THANK YOU to the 550+ volunteers who have contributed to the show. Chisholm Challenge continues to be ALL ABOUT THE COMPETITORS and is without a doubt, a true labor of love.

Chisholm Challenge would not exist without the continued gracious support of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

Please tell us about Chisholm Challenge Horse Show.
Chisholm Challenge Horse Show is a horse show for equestrians with disabilities held every January the week before the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. It is the nation’s largest equestrians with disabilities show that is held over three days with over 200 equestrians and 100 horses, Many riders consider this show their “super bowl” as many of them do not get to participate in other sporting events.

Chisholm Challenge is a true blessing for the equestrians with disabilities, for the volunteers that give up countless hours of their time, for the therapeutic riding centers who put in countless hours to prepare their riders and their horses, and for the parents who get to watch their children participate in a large competition.
