Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Roberts.
Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my journey five years ago. I was battling Depression and on Lexapro, I stressed out and prone to panic attacks. Insomnia was a close friend and I was fighting opiate addiction. As a young black woman with three children at that time, there weren’t many options. I knew I didn’t want to continue to self medicate. I received my first massage ever at Elements Massage in Richardson and I remember feeling immediate relief. I felt safe, comforted and I slept, peacefully. After I got off the massage table, I began to ask the therapist questions about where she had gone to school and then, I started my journey of looking for the right school. I wanted to find a school that taught me the Medicinal knowledge of Massage. So, I ended up at Parker University, where I received my training and certification to be a Massage Therapist. During school, I learned so much about the Human Body and its connection the mind and spirit. As I learned, I had many obstacles come my way to test the many theories on.
After graduation, I spent the first three years of my new career learning the industry and trying to figure out What type of therapist I wanted to be. I knew I had the utmost desire to help people through their mental and physical battles. I was not allowed the freedom to really grow as a therapist inside of the retail chains that I was in. So I went into business for myself, March 2017. It was called UniteMe Massage at first because my mission was to reunite people with themselves. Over the following two years, I went through what felt like EVERYTHING bad that could happen. Each situation, as learned, later on, prepared me for the people who would come across my table. Today, I am Married to the love of my life, we have four children and two dogs. My business is now named Genesis 1 Creation Total Body Wellness. I renamed my business in honor of the New Phases and New Beginnings and Endings they/we constantly face. Genesis represents “Everything begins and Ends with you.” I teach that your ability to love others depends on how you love yourself. My goal is to get people to fall back in love with themselves, with their lives, with LIFE. I spread the light by being the example. I am certified in many modalities and I am also a certified Life Coach. In addition to that, I started and founded a Company Called “Catch This Vibe.” CTV is a movement founded on the principle of LOVE for self To Love others. With this foundation, I help other small business owners achieve their goals. I create networking events, pop up shops, I create and design flyers. I have a FB group that is a barter system for members who are active. I teach business owners about how to network and work together. We are in the process of starting Small Business Classes to teach about Marketing, Branding, Business Credit and Funding, 501c 3 and grants.
People ask me why do I give so much of myself. For me, it’s not work. I understand the importance of love. If we are to create a safe place for the children of this generation to grow, then we must start with ourselves. I lead by example. I am of service to each of you because I believe in love that much.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Initially, the struggles I faced were the lack of knowledge, starting a business as a single parent, staying motivated through hardships and knowing the true meaning of perseverance. When I started my business five years ago, I was going through a Divorce from an abusive marriage, I started out 250lbs and had to get my health together. I was homeless at one point, had a major surgery that I almost died from. Anything that could have happened, HAPPENED. From feeling like no one supports your dreams to struggling through rough patches when business wasn’t doing good. There were many times, I wanted to just give up…
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Medicinal Massage Therapist. Certified Life Coach and Spiritual Guide and Nutritionist. I am also certified in over 12 modalities. I specialize in TOTAL body wellness. I am the Owner of Genesis 1 Creation and also the Owner/Founder of Catch This Vibe. Catch this Vibe is an Event Management Company that specializes in creating events that benefit the Small Business Owner.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is personal. I define success based on my goals and how well they line up with my spirit. In other words, accomplishing goals that I’m truly passionate about instead of mediocre ones. To do so, you have to be completely honest with yourself. You could be making 6 figures, but are you truly happy is the questions? The greatest success to me is breaking barriers that we have bound OURSELVES to. THAT is a success. Being FREE.
