Meet Jessica Santiago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Santiago.

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m 35 years old, originally from Puerto Rico, I move to Dallas in 2020, pursuing a different lifestyle and professional opportunities, and is been a dream come true, I’m more than thankful for this transition, this city is giving me so much already.

To tell you little bit more about my career as a Nail Technician,

I started in 2009, while I was finishing my College Degree at the University of Puerto Rico, on the weekends I took classes in the Beauty Career School as a Nail Technician, with purpose of become certified, but at the time my main focus was perusing a different path as Chemist, in wish I’m very passionate about it as well, and I end up leaving the Nail World on hold for the next 5 years.

Soon I became Affiliated to the Military and move to Okinawa, JP on 2012, there is when I realize that a lot of woman’s love to get their nails done, but they don’t completely enjoy doing it themselves, and the fact I wasn’t able to perform my career as Chemist, because I don’t qualify under the Japan Regulations, on March 2014, I decide to start working partially, as Nail Technician without thinking that soon will become my passion, a very unexpected twist but very grateful for it.

So, then the question is, “What can I do to profit doing something I’m passionate about? It became an instant hit then was really popular! my customers all loved their nails, and some of them would begin referring their friends to me! Pretty soon, I was getting more business than I could handle on the weekends, but instead of turning down new customers, I became full-time Nail Technician. The flexibility of working on my own schedule puts me in control of making my days productive!

Nail technician a profession is a little different from a typical job, you have to be strong and passionate about your work as well as confident in the knowledge of it. In my career as a nail technician, I have been shocked, excited, nervous and many more emotions just within a day’s, I end up discovering that this career suits perfectly and with purpose, is not just a profession, is a very Comforting Therapy…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obstacles are a normal part of life, and moving is no different. The experience can be quite stressful, whether you’ve just been offered a new job or simply chasing your dreams. Moving cross country or even from one state to another can be a difficult, it will involve adjusting to a new job, school, family and friends, language barrier even a cultural shock.

Jumping from one career to another is no easy task, especially when you realize start from Cero is the best option.

Even I been able to have a better Career advancement, opportunity to grow and learn the ability to gain valuable experience in an industry, in different countries with different cultures, is very exciting, but, the frequent relocation don’t

make it easier, this aspect of my life is been the most challenging.

When people ask me why I choose to be a nail technician, I tell them it’s an opportunity to change life’s one day at the time.

Remember:

There are no side effects, and the results last for a long time”.

“You can take them from ordinary to, extraordinary”

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Being a child was awesome., everything is new, you don’t have to worry about anything but simply playing and having fun, my favorite memories where during the weekends while my mom were off work, I use my creativity with her hands, was a good bonding time, also at the Science Fair, every year, bring me a lot of joy, back in the day.
