Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Strachan.
Jessica, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Chloe Marie Treats officially became a business summer of 2019. Baking was something I always had an interest in but never did until I had twins. My now six year old twins became the most significant motivation and inspiration. Cameron (Boy) and Chloe (Girl) were born premature. This opened the door to a new world for me, especially later with all of Chloe’s diagnosis that would follow. I knew that therapies such as speech and occupational therapy would play a huge role in their development, so I took action. I wanted to do my part at home and asked the therapist what were some fun activities to do that will help them while we are home. She replied, “Baking, it is good for words, numbers, and fine motor skills.” I immediately headed to the store. Shortly after, over the next years, Chloe received several diagnosis. She has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Scoliosis and Autism/ADHD. It was the hardest time of my life, not only being a single mom to twins but now a mom to a special needs child. Thru it all baking stayed consistent in our lives, almost serving as a fun therapy out. I had to find the beauty in all of what I had gone thru and realized Chloe mirrored baking. You start with all these unique ingredients, take time, love and patience and in the end, create something unique and beautiful. My niece and nephew’s mom Tiffany tasted my lemon cookies and demanded I go into business lol I was nervous, had doubts, had setbacks and all, but I kept going. I kept going for her, Cameron and others. My purpose is bigger than cookies. My purpose is to spread awareness, embrace everyone no matter what, but most importantly inspire mothers like myself to believe in themselves and dream big.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe that any road worth taking will always have a few bumps and smooth out. In the beginning, I would start and stop due to just juggling single motherhood, twins, a special needs child and life in general. However, once I realized this was my purpose and bigger than me, I set my intention on completing it. I had several amazing women who all happen to have their own businesses give me advice, tips and inspiration. After hearing all of their humble beginnings, it pushed me to try harder. My best memory was my 1st market. Nothing went as planned but the outcome was better than planned. So I’ve learned to accept the not so perfect road and coast until I get to the smooth, kind of like motherhood, it always changes day by day, but you adapt!
Please tell us about your business.
Chloe Marie Treats is primarily cookies at the moment. We are working on adding more to the menu as we grow. We bake gourmet cookies that are different in taste and flavor. I wanted my business to be different and stand out, just like Chloe. We are known for our Signature Lemon Cookie and Butter Pecan Cookie! As a company, I am most proud of how much amazing feedback we have gotten for our cookies but, most importantly, our purpose. Also that one day it will be Chloe’s to run. My biggest goal for my company is that it will change lives. What sets us apart is that we are purpose driven first and foremost. In business, the main goal is always money but my happiness truly comes from seeing others happy, knowing we are making a difference and teaching my twins how to be caring, compassionate, patient human beings that will love and embrace anyone no matter their disABILITIES.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is who you inspire and help along the way of your journey. Having Chloe, twins and being a single mom has truly taught me selflessness. I know that everything I do and my path is not just for me or about me. We are all connected and cross paths for a reason. Those who were already successful never thought twice about offering their support to me. I believe that’s how you become and stay successful. My criteria for success is growth. As long as im growing and improving, success will always show up not just in big ways but in small ways as well.
