Hi Jessie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a wedding planner in the DFW area. I got engaged to my now husband in 2014 and decided to try to take on the planning myself. I did a LOT of research and spent basically every waking hour wedding planning except for when I was working. We got married in 2015, and our wedding went off without a hitch! After we were back from the honeymoon, my husband asked “now what are you going to do with all your free time?” So, I started dabbling in wedding planning for friends and family, and I realized this is what I wanted to do with my life. I started According to Plan in 2017 and have been wedding planning ever since. I absolutely love my job! I never wake up on Mondays anymore and think “ugh, why is it always Monday?” I’m excited for my weeks to begin because I get to do what I love and I’ve been blessed with some really fantastic couples over the years. Getting to know my clients through the planning process and being able to make everything come to fruition on their beautiful wedding day is my favorite thing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road! There’s always obstacles, but you figure out how to overcome them. Obviously, the #1 struggle for most is getting clients. There are hundreds of fantastic wedding planners in the DFW area alone, so being able to get your name out there and differentiate yourself from your peers enough to bring in clients is the constant goal. Thankfully many of my past clients take the time to leave amazing reviews on my social media pages, and reviews are everything in this business. Between that and some awesome vendor friends who have worked with me and send referrals my way, I manage my little piece of the pie in this bustling industry.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about According to Plan?
I am a wedding and event planner in the DFW area. I’m based out of Fort Worth, but my weddings are all over DFW, and I’ve even branched out to Houston and Destin on occasion. I have planned weddings for all varieties of budgets, styles, and cultures – each wedding is unique, and I work to ensure it is tailored to each of my couple’s visions.
I can plan a backyard BBQ wedding or the most elaborate, black-tie formal wedding you’ve ever seen, and I’m going to do it all while being chill and down-to-earth. I am a very calm and organized person. I will always give you my professional opinion where needed, but this is your wedding, and I often remind my clients of that when I get questions like “how should this be done?” or “what’s the right way?”
No matter who’s involved in the planning process, I always ensure the final decisions are made by my couple. It’s their day, and it should be done their way.
I started out with wedding planning being my side gig and turned it into a full-time business doing something I absolutely love. I don’t think it gets better than that. I adore watching my past clients grow their relationships and families via social media, and it makes my heart happy that I was able to be a part of the beginning of their forever.
I offer several package options to fit each couple’s needs and budget from wedding day management to full wedding planning. Although my main focus is on weddings, I also plan other events like quinceaneras, bridal showers, and baby showers. Plus, I’m a travel agent! So, I can help my couples plan their honeymoons, bachelor/bachelorette parties, or any ol’ random vacay.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My parents had a lake house when I was growing up, and we spent numerous weekends and summers out there. My best memories are simply spending time with my family and the friends we brought with us – doing water sports, swimming, sitting by the bonfire, or just sitting around playing board games in the living room. Family is everything to me, and I’m so thankful I got to spend so much time with them making special memories
