Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessy J.
Jessy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My dad was an artist all of his life so art definitely runs through my veins. He taught me to have a genuine appreciation for it by regularly taking me to art galleries and museums when I was a child. In my adult years, I got into modeling for many years, so it naturally made sense that I would be interested in what it would be like working on the other side of the lens as a photographer. One day, I took a leap of faith, bought a whole bunch of equipment and starting practicing on friends and family. After that, I began showcasing my work on social media and it took off from there.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely! As creatives, we are our worst critics… I’m constantly challenging myself and am always seeking something greater in my work. I’m slowly learning to appreciate everything I’ve created and not to be so hard on myself.
Also, I had to learn that not everyone will appreciate or like my work. That was hard to grasp at first but I now understand my body of work can be compared to a genre of music. As a photography, I cater to a specific audience, so I now focus my attention on them!

As the owner of Jessy J Photography, I am the photographer and will also take on the role of creative director for my shoots. My area of expertise focuses on beauty, swimwear, maternity, and fashion photography. My style is colorful, clean, edgy with a hint of sexy/attitude. I’m all about female empowerment and like to capture that in the women that I photograph.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Dallas and there a few photographers that specialize in my style of work so I’m happy to bring that to the big D!
