Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Youngblood.
Josh, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Technology has always been my passion ever since I played Connect 4 on a monochrome Apple II computer in 2nd grade. In 9th grade, I worked for an East Texas school district as the de facto Technology Coordinator. This further ignited my passion for technology, and at 15 I started my own business building and servicing computers. By 18, I had purchased an existing computer store and had five employees working for me. After a few years, I was eager to move to a larger city and accepted an opportunity to enter mortgage banking. There, I was able to use my skills in technology and gain experience in finance. During the financial downturn of 2007, I decided to return to technology and started JLY Technologies. Some people see me as the IT guy, but I see myself as a problem solver. For me, it’s really about finding innovative technology and business solutions for our clients. Using technology in an optimal way is something everyone benefits from.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles in business. Each client has different needs and a different personality. This is what makes every day new and exciting. Embracing the challenges and staying calm under pressure are important. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day operations of a business and become busy with “being busy.” Earlier this year, I came across a quote in Tim Ferris’s book Tribe of Mentors that I’ve fully embraced. He says, “Busy is a decision.” To many people, being busy is a badge of honor. If you are organized and structured, though, your focus is not on being busy but getting things done. Remember – we are judged by what we accomplish, not by how many things we start.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JLY Technologies – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
JLY Technologies provides multifaceted IT services to small businesses. We perform web development, provide cloud-based services, and can function as a client’s Chief Information Officer, managing their infrastructure. I am most proud of the relationships with our clients that we have developed over the years. These relationships are built on our commitment to excellence, for which we are known, and also our honesty. I always tell my clients that they may not always like the answer I give them, but it will always be an honest answer. Our clients value this, and we take the trust they have placed in us very seriously. Warren Buffett said it best: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
One of my favorite things about Dallas is that we have pretty much everything. Shopping, restaurants, and museums Dallas has it all covered. My least favorite thing about the city is traffic. Of course this is not unique to Dallas and provides an opportunity to return phone calls or listen to podcasts or audible in the car.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
I look forward to continuing the positive growth of JLY Technologies. Meeting ever-changing client needs and optimizing our efficiency are challenges that excite me.
JLY Tax, LLC. is a new venture I’ve started. I’ve always been interested in taxation, and now my sister is joining me, bringing her years of accounting experience. We want to make accounting and tax preparation less daunting for business owners so they can focus on the aspects of their business that they enjoy.
