Today we’d like to introduce you to Jo Ann Goin.
Hi Jo Ann, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Alpine, Texas and grew up in Wink, Texas. I graduated from the University of North Texas with a BBA in Production and Operations Management with a minor in Statistical Studies in 1990.
Throughout high school and college, I was involved in the food service industry. After graduation, I took a position in the medical equipment industry for several years, and then returned to food service management at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, culminating in running Silks, a 1500 seat dining room.
In 1999, I launched Glory House Catering to pursue my passion of providing great food and event services as an entrepreneur. Our company began by providing delivery catering. After purchased a property on Main Street in Irving early on, our team began the catering service from this location.
I have always been very involved in the Irving community from the inception of the company including memberships in various chambers. As a previous Chairwoman of the Board for the Greater Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce I was able to realize one of my passions- the promotion of free enterprise.
I am also very proud to be in Irving. The City of Irving has been very good to me and Glory House Catering over the years. There is a fantastic community of business owners, non-profits and citizens that are very involved in the succuss of our city and I love that!
I have been married 30 years to Steve Goin, a retired kickboxing and continuous fighting World Champion. Steve has worked at Glory House Catering since 2009 as the Purchasing Manager and is liaison to our largest catering account. Our family is committed to a spirit of excellence in faith, family and business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our company has survived many national setbacks, such as Sept. 11, 2001, market crashes and economic downturn, COVID 19 and a massive roof collapse at our property in 2019. The day to day cashflow issues that any small business experiences is an ongoing battle. There have been many times we wanted to “throw in the towel” and give up, but we have persevered and overall been very successful.
We’ve been impressed with Glory House Catering & Bistro, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Glory House Catering was launched in 1999 by Jo Ann Goin. From inception Glory House has been committed to quality cuisine, beautiful presentation, attention to detail and friendly customer service. Jo Ann’s husband, Steve Goin, joined the business in 2009 and has been a great asset to the company since that day.
Glory House began Main Street in Irving. After years of establishing the company in the marketplace, the company expanded by purchasing an adjoining property in 2007 to create a venue/event space. In 2010, remodeling the location to host on site weekday Bistro lunch. The lunch portion of the business closed in 2021 after COVID-19, but the catering and event venue continue to present day.
September 2025 marked the 27th year anniversary of Glory House Catering. The company has won numerous awards including Blue Ribbon Small Business of the year by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a prestigious award listing Glory House as one of the top 100 small businesses in the United States. Glory House has also been voted Best Caterer in Irving and received many other awards and honors over the years.
The company continues to be a great asset to downtown. The company is very involved in the DFW community by supporting numerous non-profits.
2019 was a big year for Glory House as the company property was completely remodeled into an industrial farmhouse design. And 2023 marked a big year as well for Glory House with an updated façade on the front of the property and a large painted mural on the back of the property on Main St. in downtown Irving.
Glory House Catering ownership and staff give all glory to God for our success and longevity, fully aware that the company would not be where it is today without the guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit.
What matters most to you?
It is very important to me to maintain a spirit of excellence in my work and in my community. I want to be part of making Irving a better place to live, work and play. It is so important to build relationships and come together to make significant impact here where we spend so much time and put in so much effort as a business. Community in unity can make great strides in keeping our City viable and worthy to pass on to the next generations to come.
