Meet Jodi Philippson of Food Tours of America

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Philippson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I travel quite a bit and food tours are a great way to really get to know a city. Dallas didn’t have a daily food tour and I was always taking guests to eat their way through our city when they visit. I also wanted to bring unique experiences to Dallas locals and help people explore their own neighbourhoods. And Dallas is so big that you really can vacation in your own city.

I’ve noticed that Dallas can be intimidating as a visitor. We always tell our guests that they really do now have a friend in Dallas. We are the number #1 food and drink activity on Trip Advisor and I’m honoured that people trust us with their time and their memories. And I’m always blown away when lifelong locals learn new things on our tours. Our guests mainly come through word of mouth from friends and that’s such a compliment!

Has it been a smooth road?
Any small business faces challenges! Our favorite challenge though is that there are so many amazing neighborhoods in Dallas and it tough to showcase them all. We’re a walking tour, so all of our tours must be pedestrian friendly. We began in Uptown with our West Village tours because that’s where I lived when I founded the company in 2011. We then decided to showcase downtown and the history of JFK and we have recently paired with the newly revamped Dallas Farmers Market! We also have plans for tours in the Bishop Arts District, Cedar Springs, Lower Greenville and possibly Deep Ellum.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Food Tours of America – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer walking restaurant sightseeing tours for group of up to 15 guests. You’ll visit four to six restaurants and enjoy tasting plates at each one. Our tours are enough for lunch or dinner and they are fully narrated by local tour guides with culture and history and trivia. We feed people, entertain them, and make them happy! We give visitors and locals the opportunity to connect over food and cocktails and explore neighbourhoods, sightsee, and have an over-all feel for the city I truly love and call home… Dallas. We specialize in local corporate team-building events for groups up to 100. Our corporate clients love that they can combine food and an activity in just a few hours. We also love hosting birthday parties, wedding parties, women’s groups and charity events.

I’m most proud of the fact that we’re a small locally owned and operated business that has been around since 2011. It’s exciting to share that the majority of our business comes from referrals from former guests. And I’m most proud when locals are really impressed with our tours. Our committed team has a lot of heart…we do our best to give our guests incredible experiences.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
