Meet Joe Daugherty of DFW Safety Consulting in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Daugherty.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am from Soddy Daisy Tennessee, when I finished High School I chose to go out into the work force instead of collage. I was introduced to the construction work force in 1990, I traveled to Houston to take on a job as a labor in a paper-mill. After a couple years I entered a trade as an electrician helper, with the help of my older brother an opening came up for a safety tech in Shreveport, La in 1992. My career soared from there.

In 1994, I was one of the youngest that held a job title as a Corporate Safety Director at the age of 22 working for a contractor in Nashville TN. I just knew in my mind at the I would retire there in Nashville.

My career took a turn for the worse when I made a decision that had years of consequence. I got addicted to Crack Cocaine. I was not raised around drugs as a child, after trying it there was no turning back. I could not hold a job, went several years tying, I moved to Dallas and things went from bad to worse. I was struggling to survive, choosing to live on the streets of Dallas trying to get my next high.

Got to the point I was tired of living like that, I knew I was better that this. So, to make a long story short after couple years of rehabs that got me nowhere, I found my faith in God and conquered the addiction.

Doors started opening and I was back on top again. After few years in the corporate realm, me choosing not to go to college was coming back to haunt me, not having a degree in my field don’t fly with many corporations today. Things have changed in this field in the last 27 years.

My past coworkers, and friends, family, and church motivated me to start my own consulting business and its going Great!! I also have a ministry to assist people that struggle with addiction.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not having a degree, my past drug addiction.
