Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Pacetti.
Joe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From a 13 year old after school shoe shine boy in Tulsa, OK, who admired jewelry always and purchased his first piece then, to the 16 year old waiter who purchased his first solid gold & diamonds watch as his high school graduation gift, to the eager to learn in the work world Marketing & Merchandising graduate who took his first jewelry job with the Zale Corp in Tulsa and was top book monthly, who made a record sale $43,000 and was not paid a commission or bonus, who left Zale’s after that two year stint, to be a by appointment only fine jeweler (and gemologist) since 1979, moved from Tulsa to Dallas.
I always enjoy helping clients build a collection of jewels and jewelry that fits each their lifestyle.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My business is like any other when it comes to the road to success. There have been ups and downs always. A (jewelry) bag taken in the airport and never found, an employee infidelity incident, to the highs of making several seven figure sales to well-known clients. A positive attitude always helps. I never try to push the sale of merchandise. I present it, along with its attributes and appeal, and I let the jewelry almost sell itself that way. I don’t have clients with buyer’s remorse as they are never pushed or steered wrong when it comes to making such a purchase. I like to help build collections.
Please tell us about J. Pacetti Precious Jewels.
I started on my own with no money and a big trust that God would provide me with clients to purchase jewelry. Many clients followed me from Zales. I specialize in being specific to each client. I try to show pieces only that are congruent with what they’ve previously acquired. I don’t try to oversell someone and always try to think of it as if I were the client. That piece they are purchasing has to represent me and the quality and value I’m known to provide.
I think of each piece worn as an advertisement of me and my company. I’m most proud of selling third generations of several families. Setting me apart would be my 40 years of experience in the industry, with a by appointment only referral business, if a client isn’t satisfied, then I’m not happy. Clients are #1 in my business!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a thirteen-year-old shine boy, working in the barber shop after school and in Saturday’s, I would pick one day a month to ride the city bus downtown and window shop until I found the little silver initial ring, or cross or St. Christopher, or 10k topaz ring, or the like.
To start to build my first collection of personal jewelry. I never had much money left in my pockets, but always had great jewelry, whatever price point I could then afford. Something’s never change….
The jewelry just got bigger and finer!!
