Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Brock.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a mixed media visual artist living in Dallas, TX. My work is anchored in an abstract expressionist tradition, influenced by urban landscapes, graffiti and minimalist forms. I’m known for pushing the boundaries of the materials that I utilize in my artwork and challenging myself to try new concepts. I’m proud that I’ve been able to donate my art to help raise funds for great organizations such as Alley’s House, Art for Advocacy benefiting the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center and the Black Tie Dinner which is a non-profit organization that raises funds for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) supportive organizations serving North Texas. It’s an amazing feeling to give back to these organization through something that I enjoy.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of the struggles I’ve faced in the art world has been related to being a self-taught artist. I always feel like I have more to prove but despite what some might see as a handycap has actually made me push harder to succed by producing quality and memorable work. The art business is not easy and sales are never consistant so I work a full-time job which affords me the ability to thrive without the pressure of worrying when my next art sale will happen.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
My plans for the future are to expand into other art markets in the U.S. and internationally.
