Today we’d like to introduce you to Joeylynn Mesaros.
Joeylynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My affinity for flowers began when I was a child, spending hours in the garden with my grandmother. I have many memories traipsing around barefoot planting seeds, tending to flowers and arranging small flowers in bud vases.
My grandmother taught me the grit of being outdoorsy, but also how to stop and appreciate the beauty in life (both actually and metaphorically).
When I was 15 years old, it started to become a dream to have a flower shop, and by the age of 30, it was an actual flower shop executed with DBA and Tax ID # with orders pouring in!
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road! It’s been a journey for over 15 years of struggling to take a vision and create a reality out of it.
I have faced many ups and downs becoming estranged from my family due to my mother’s unresolved mental health issues and her battle with bipolar disorder, and the most recent loss of my inspirational grandmother to dementia on February 15, 2019.
I also struggle with a learning disability, Dyscalculia, which is basically the numbers version of Dyslexia (this has kept me at a 3rd grade level for math) – thankfully I have been able to overcompensate in the area of reading, writing, and communication which as carried me this far.
It is critical to have key people in my life to double check my budgeting, my spreadsheets, my emails, and other general business math and numbers transactions.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Traveling Florist Co. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Traveling Florist Co. is a locally owned business specializing in craft floral-handiwork. I pride myself in utilizing a unique design style which sets me apart from traditional floral design. I hand select moody, textured and vibrant florals which work together to create luxe arrangements for weddings, special events, parties, businesses, homes, DIY classes, pop-up bouquet bars and more!
I consciously maximize my resources by drying any remaining florals for later use in other merchandise, and promise to source locally when possible. I am also excited to offer a cause-worthy line of merchandise which contributes 10 percent of proceeds to local, featured charities.
To reach my target demographics, I attend local farmers markets, mobile vending events, and pop-ups. Being mobile gives me an advantage to constantly be present in popular locations and up to date with current trends and events.
My goal is to be a leader in the local floral industry by bringing walk-up floral shops to my consumers and promoting cause-worthy topics. I hope that with each client interaction comes a sense of nostalgia, a feeling of wonder and inspired world change.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
What I like most about Dallas is hitting up the local antique shops and finding fun vases and other antiques to upcycle into floral design!
I definitely like the traffic construction the least!
