Today we’d like to introduce you to John DeVivo.
John, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My brother and I started our culinary interest at a young age. At home we had a mother that could cook like Marie from the TV show Everyone Loves Raymond. We started young helping in the kitchen preparing dinner for the family. We sometimes had large gatherings at the house that we would help cook for. I can remember being 10yrs old cleaning squid in the kitchen sink with my brothers. Shooting ink on the ceiling and at each other. Just like little girls dream about their wedding we used to dream about our restaurant. Years later after working in restaurants so long for someone else, we decided to open our own.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not and is not been a smooth road. Long days, long nights and participating in the community has made us successful. Demonstrating a good example for our staff working as hard as they do has earned us a loyal team. Developing food, and a business model at the same time. Making the tough decisions daily changing procedures, recipes, and staff over and over has been challenging.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a scratch made restaurant. Selling breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a whole line of desserts from scratch. We have a fast casual, but chef driven environment. We have a modo as simple as you can get. Make delicious food, make people happy. We don’t like to say no, and we don’t like to cut corners. One of the things that sets us apart is, when you come you are likely to see one of the DeVivo Bros. walking around the dining room. We sell the freshest and most quality product that we can. We believe that when you cook for someone it’s like giving them a gift. The passionate gift that you can’t wait for the recipient to unwrap. We just want to make it delicious one dish at a time. We also operate a Fire Engine with a wood burning pizza oven in it. We go from place to place and cater with it. Pizzas are cooked an 800 degree oven with a wood fire called Hook and Ladder Pizza Co.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We love our city. We love to support our local police, fire, and schools. Not that the other parts of the city aren’t to important but these are the core people that we appreciate. We love being a part of it.
