Meet John and Kari LaRue of Deep Ellum Art Co. in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to John and Kari LaRue.

John and Kari, please share your story with us.
In 2012, we took off across the country in an RV for a music festival which sparked a desire to create a space with festival vibes 365 days a year as no such place existed. As much as we love traveling and seeking adventure at familiar and new festival experiences alike, we longed to cultivate an accessible space where LOVE reigns supreme and promoting community is the central focus. Our mission is to elevate all things art. We are dedicated to the creative and native.®️

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We began this project three and a half years ago and finally opened our doors in September 2017. To say, there have been struggles is an understatement. Simply too many bumps in the road to count. But nothing worth doing is easy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Deep Ellum Art Co. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a live music and art bar with a massive outdoor creative space/patio. We specialize in creating unique experiences. Our multifunctional space allows us to host a wide variety of arts seven days a week including but not limited to Open Mic Nights, comedy, poetry, food trucks, monthly Artist Markets, local/national/internationally touring acts, theater, trivia nights, weddings, wrestling, & private events. We are most proud of the opportunities we are able to provide to the community because of Art Co.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Currently, we are planning our First Anniversary Weekend! Grateful Dead cover band, Forgotten Space, returns to our stage one year later over Labor Day weekend with shows Friday and Saturday evening as well as other attractions and activities! Our hope for the future is to continue to be able to provide exceptional experiences to our guests and a platform for artists to showcase their talents.
