Meet John Paul Turnham of DashinglyTurnham

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Paul Turnham.

John Paul, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would have to say my family inspired me to start my own blog. My family helped me brainstorm ways to differentiate myself and thus, become marketable and that’s how DashinglyTurnham was born in February 2017. I noticed that, especially in Dallas, there are few male bloggers and a plethora of female bloggers so there was a good need in that sense. Something else I noticed was that a majority of bloggers blog solely about themselves; what it is they are doing, what they are up to and what they are wearing.

The idea that blogging is so “me, me, me” wasn’t “me” and I knew that making my blog a collaborative effort would be a great way to stand out and also get to showcase Dallas’ finest! I always welcome new friends, why shouldn’t my site be that way? I’ve thought of myself as the “Oprah of the Dallas blogger community” but in a more concise manner.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the main challenges I face is conflicting schedules. In order to feature a blogger, I need to know what day/time works best for them and I try extremely hard to be accommodating. Additionally, I have to consider the photographer’s and my schedule as well. If I was blogging about myself, it would be easier to put outposts on the daily. I’m a busy guy, I work two jobs and play on the United States Tennis Association (USTA) tour in Texas so my free time is pretty limited. Ideally, I would love to feature bloggers two to three times a month, but that’s not always the case. I realize it’s not how much quantity I put out, it’s the quality of work that I put in.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with DashinglyTurnham – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
DashinglyTurnham is a blog where you can learn about some of your favorite local bloggers through my JP’s 3—which are three questions I ask them– and view stunning photos taken by my amazing photographer, Jayare Tillman. It is essentially a fashion/lifestyle blog dedicated to showcasing bloggers who make what I call a “fashment” in Dallas. Fashment is a combo of fashion and statement. I select bloggers who I feel make a fashment whether it’s their style, personality or branding. What I’m most proud of my blog is people tell me how unique and a terrific idea to put the focus on others. Dallas is a big metropolitan city, so if someone recognizes me as DashinglyTurnham, I’ve done my job with getting that exposure.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I was born and raised Texan, I love that I live in the best state in America. You can say I have that typical Texan pride most people have here in Dallas. What I love most about our city is our food scene, Tex-Mex and BBQ reign supreme here. The recent downside I’ve noticed is the horrendous traffic growing due to more people moving to our state. I can’t say I blame them after all everything is bigger in Texas.
