Meet John Pinder of Nickel Road Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Pinder.

John, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been writing my whole life, ever since I was in middle school. My English teachers were always motivating me to write, and I did. I never really did anything with it though. I always feared that if I wrote for a living I would no longer enjoy it because my mind never seemed to stop creating stories and characters. Back then, and still to this day, there isn’t a machine or device that can work fast enough to get all of these ideas out of my brain.

I really credit a lot of my storytelling to being a good game master; creating worlds, characters, communities, and the scenarios that brought the players into my world. It was exciting and challenging.

When I got married, my wife would read some of the stories or poems I had written and would constantly tell me to do something with my writing. I was forty-two when I finally decided that she was right and I began to follow my dream. She was involved in the film industry as a make-up artist and I got in by becoming a Script Supervisor. I loved it so much I began writing my own scripts, getting feedback from people, taking their critique and doing everything I could to perfect this new format of writing.

Eleven years later and here I am now very successful and still enjoying it very much.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has been a struggle from day one. It took time to really learn how to create a good story in a script format, and even once the script is done, getting it to someone who can actually make something happen from it took years of networking and meeting people. I think that being passionate about what you do and what you have written is just as important as the story itself. You really have to believe in yourself and your abilities. It’s been a personal journey just as much as a professional one.

Please tell us about John Pinder.
I met a wonderful and talented woman named Rosa Nichols through a friend, and we started working on a Faith-based pilot for a TV Series back in 2013. We just clicked right away and have been working together ever since. Our Production team is called Nickel Road Productions. We currently have a short film called Made with Love that is doing extremely well in the Festival circuit. I am actually writing a feature length version at this time.
Rosa and I are known for the quality of the scripts and stories that we decide to work on, and that is something I am very proud of. We have a good name, we work hard, people enjoy working with us, and we go out of our way to maintain good relations with everyone we work with.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Getting in trouble actually. Ha ha!

I would actually get accused a lot in school for copying from books by certain teachers who didn’t know how well I could write, and it was always my English teachers that would come to my rescue. After a while, I became flattered by it. By the time High School came along, it was just known by my teachers, and during my senior year I ended up writing for the school newspaper.
