Meet Jonathan Schubert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Schubert.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I studied art and design at the University of North Texas from 2006 – 2010 and upon graduating landed an internship at Fossil – which eventually took me into a full-time position in their brand design team. I stayed at Fossil for five years, gaining experience and interest in apparel, product design, illustration, and typography – and slowly growing a freelance business outside regular work hours. In 2015 I left Fossil for a mid-level design position with Tractor beam, a branding agency in downtown Dallas. While working there I stretched new design muscle and gained critical experience on a wide variety of projects. During this time my freelance work grew to the point where I could no longer handle it as merely a side-hustle and in June of 2017 I left Tractor beam to pursue working for myself full-time as The Schubert Studio.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a graphic designer with a specific focus in branding and illustration. A lot of my clients are small to medium size businesses, apparel brands, and restaurants.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
It’s never been easier to get your work in front of others – whether as an artist or a designer. The competition is more intense, of course – but then so is the drive to separate one’s own work from the others, even while you are inspired and informed by it. Community is important between creatives – whether on a local level or on social media across the globe. It’s great to see what others designers and artists are interested in, inspired by, and pursuing.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find me on Instagram and Dribbble – and a website eventually…
