Meet Jonelle Green of Dawn Desirable Melts Candle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonelle Green.  

Hi Jonelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my candle business in 2021 from a conversation with my spouse at the kitchen table. We both were discussing our love for candles, wax melts, and all things to make your home smell good. I mentioned to him jokingly that I was going to make a candle for our home. Little did I know that it was a start of a new business venture. From that day forward, I started researching, attending classes, and online group discussions that furthered my knowledge about the world of candle making. Quietly, I began testing wax, scents, wicks, and vessels that would create the perfect candles and wax melts. Initially, I thought this can’t be that difficult, but little did I know that math, science, and tons of patience would be needed. Since starting I have also mastered and added room/linen sprays to my brand as well. Making candles has been a creative process that I am constantly learning and perfecting my craft. The satisfaction received by making candles is more than rewarding. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road since starting my candle business. Launching a business takes money, support, establishing your company’s brand, and making a profit. Since starting, I have received positive and constructive criticism. That will help me get better and tweak some things to improve in my candle-making process. Starting a business requires a significant investment, which can be a challenge for entrepreneurs who are juggling multiple responsibilities. I try to set realistic deadlines and be disciplined about managing my time. Understanding that the biggest competition is me and not the big box stores keep me encouraged and focused on my mission and target market.

Our mission is to be your handcrafted candle-making company of choice that takes pride within the time and effort that goes into making candles. We rejoice in knowing that we make quality scented candles made with natural soy and coconut cream wax. We utilize the top-quality wax and scent oil that will help you relax and feel calm and bring a peaceful ambiance into any space. All items are handmade and hand-poured with the highest quality products. A lot of our products are created and given distinctive names by me. The company name is derived by my middle name Dawn which means the beginning of a phenomenon or period of time and the first appearance of light. 

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as the accomplishment of a purpose. It is doing my best, setting goals, and trying in all aspects of everything you do, even if that doesn’t lead to big results. If you’ve done your best, you should feel proud of your efforts. If you believe you can, you will succeed. Self-belief doesn’t come naturally to everyone, but if you believe you can achieve the goals in your plans, you’re doing great. When people don’t believe in you, you still need to work on your own confidence.!
