Meet Jonlouis Gonzalez of Dallas & Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonlouis Gonzalez

Hi Jonlouis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always seen my artistic practice as its own evolving universe—one that grows with every piece I create. Growing up in the Space Coast of Florida watching rocket launches, I was surrounded by the vastness of both the ocean and the cosmos, which shaped my perspective on exploration, storytelling, and the human experience.

My work often features astronaut figures as symbols of curiosity, guardianship, and the search for meaning—ideas that transcend time and place. Throughout the 8 years of my artistic career, I have seen many versions of myself and the world through my work, it fuels me to continue to see the evolution.

Each step in my journey has reinforced my belief in art’s ability to connect, question, and inspire. I continue to push my work further, exploring themes of identity, social dynamics, and the pursuit of something greater.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road worth taking is ever completely smooth. As a creative, challenging yourself—and even your own foundation—is essential. For me, growth comes from pushing into new mediums, exploring deeper concepts, and embracing the emotions that shape my collections. Each challenge is an opportunity to evolve, not just as an artist, but as a person. The process is never easy, but that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a visual artist; specializing in painting, sculpting, and installation work. A defining moment in my career was when SpaceX selected my artwork to be part of Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to space. My piece orbited the Earth for three days before returning home to be auctioned and donated to St.Jude.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is contributing and becoming an asset to the cultural development of my city and making an impact through my work. Art has the power to inspire, connect, and create real change, and that’s something I strive for in everything I do. This September, I’ll be donating a piece to the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center for auction, helping to raise funds for the investigation, prosecution, and healing services for the most severe cases of child abuse in Dallas County. Knowing that my work can play a role in something bigger than myself is what drives me forward.
