Meet Jordan Batiste of Jayco Handyman Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Batiste

Hi Jordan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The journey of my handyman business all started when I left home to study medicine in college. My biology teacher founded a missionary group on campus and oftentimes spoke about it in class. I really enjoy helping people, and they had free food- which is always a huge motivator when the cafeteria food sucks and you’re on a budget. So, I ended up going to their meetings, and became increasingly committed as time passed. During my matriculation through school, I helped them build some houses, a wellness center, and a school (I also changed my major and became a teacher). Once I graduated, I got a teaching job a few hours away and would oftentimes use my breaks, and summer vacations to do handyman work locally. I started using a few apps to put extra money in my pocket. As time progressed however, I started to make as much money doing handyman work as I was teaching. Once that happened, I decided to take a break from teaching and jump into my business full time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the words of Lily Tomlin, “the road to success is always under construction.” My journey to running a full time handyman business was hardly ever smooth. I’ve underestimated how long jobs would take to complete, undercharged my clients- because I didn’t want them to say ‘no’, miscalculated how much I’ll need to spend to do a job, partnered with people that ended up stealing from my clients, and have even had clients that didn’t want to pay after the work was completed- even though we did a phenomenal job. Niels Bohr says, “ an expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field.” Because I’ve had so many mis-steps, and unforeseen challenges, Jayco Handyman Services is a company that continues to grow with each and every passing year. We recently reinstated our contractor’s license, and have a team of licensed plumbers, master electricians, and craftsmen that have honed their craft through the years. We can confidently take most commercial and residential jobs we receive and can deliver a phenomenal result every time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jayco Handyman Services LLC?
Jayco Handyman has been around since 2019 officially, but I started working with my hands 5 years prior to forming the company. We provide over 60 difference services in the commercial/residential sector, including: painting, plumbing services, electrical services, carpentry, fence repairs/installations, furniture assemblies, floor repairs/installations, junk removal, demolitions, drywall repair, bathroom remodeling, trash outs, make readies, and home/office design. Our team of licensed plumbers, electricians, and craftsmen can handle pretty much every job that comes our way. Along with doing a phenomenal job on every project we receive, we strive to provide quick responses to clients, consistently improve our customer service, and to go over and beyond whatever expectations have been set forth.

One of the things I’m proud of is just seeing how Jayco Handyman Services has grown through the years. Our team is growing, along with the size of the jobs we’re doing, and the clients we’re serving. It feels good to be a part of something that is consistently contributing to society, and making the lives of the people in our community better. We’ve recently reinstated our contractor’’s license, and plan to start working for the government in the future. What matters most to you? Why?
I would like Christ to be number one in my life. Followed by family, friends, and relationships in general. In the words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. Since I can’t take anything with me once this journey is all said and done, I want to create lasting memories for the ones who are going through this journey called ‘life’ with me.

After relationships, I’d say the next important thing is personal development. This is where all progress stems from. Whether it’s growing the business, my team- to better serve our clientele, or myself (so I’m not the bottleneck in the business) I believe that real progress comes from real growth. I also believe that as we improve, things around us improve as well. We’ll also be able to have more of an impact in the lives of the people around us.
