Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Gill.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my business before I even had a website. I was working for an incredible online entrepreneur for 2 years as her Head of Content and then moved into a bit of an operational role. I really really loved the operations side of things. I loved being able to build, mold, and play with how to make things more efficient. I’ve always been operations-minded even during my Head of Content role. However, I was just getting this itch to do more of that type of work. So I gave my boss about 6 weeks’ notice (I knew they had a launch coming up and I wanted to support them through that). And the clock started clicking.
By the grace of God (literally), during those 6 weeks with no website, no real idea of what my offerings were, I was able to secure 3 monthly retainer clients that would still support me with the salary I had previously. It’s the power of networking and just connecting with people for over 2 years without asking for anything. I loved my job and honestly thought I would be working there for at least 5 years. But when your gut is calling you, you have to follow it. So we started out as Personalized Procedures (I know….the name is less than stellar) and we recently rebranded to The Kolada Group. The name is inspired by pina coladas, which are a symbol of fun and relaxation. That’s what we achieve with clients who work with us. We are a business operations firm that helps entrepreneurs thrive with tech and team solutions. We looooove to get things automated and delegated so you can stop being the bottleneck in your own business.
I am fueled by efficiency. If I feel like something is complicated, I have to make a process for it or make things easier. I’m always asking my team, “What’s still not working? What’s still taking too much time?” And we squash it right then and there. I couldn’t do what I do without my team’s support and it allows me to be fully present with my clients. I want my team and myself to only do the things that we HAVE to do manually. If it can be automated, we automate it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The entrepreneurial journey is always winding…I started off really well. I put in 6 weeks at my job and was able to start my business out of necessity. I more than quadrupled my salary in those 6 weeks to start my business off with a bang! But after several months in that business model, I burned out and had to make a change. So I switched to solely consultative intensives. It has been such a joy working in a much faster capacity with clients. It is more in line with how my focus works. You are constantly just trying things out when it comes to business models. You think you like something, but then you try it and don’t. It’s important to listen to what’s working for you as much as what’s working for your clients.
Please tell us about The Kolada Group.
The Kolada Group is a business operations firm that specializes in client management processes. Most of our clients come to us struggling to manage their current client load and bring on new ones. It can be hard knowing where you’re at with every client. It’s important to start taking your business seriously instead of on a hope and a prayer. We mainly work with online service-based businesses – lawyers, coaches, fitness trainers, event planners, etc… What sets us apart is speed. Most people in my industry to long 9-12 month packages. Mine are 4 hours and 2 days. I like to work as quickly as possible and my clients appreciate the speed. I’m most proud of the results we’ve been able to accomplish with our clients. They’ve been able to take vacations, pick their kiddos up from school every day, and serve their clients from their highest power.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The biggest lesson I learned was about decision fatigue. No one told me how tired you’ll get about making every decision in your business. When you want to take client calls, what colors you want, how many times you want to post to Instagram – all the things. And all those decision led to me almost burning out in my business 1 year after I started. It was a hard realization and I took a 3 week success sabbatical. I spent time completely away from my business – watching Lifetime movies and working out. It’s so important to step back and take care of yourself. Never ignore your body.
