

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Hankins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Allen, TX where I went to Allen High School. At some point during college, I decided I was interested in property management. During my sophomore year, I was determined the get into the property management field. I applied to at least fifty management companies before I got an interview with at the time a very small company. Throughout most of college, I worked full time as a leasing agent. My last property management position, I was responsible to oversee a luxury high rise building in downtown Dallas. During this time in my life, I was going to school full time at nights at University of North Texas in Denton, working in property management full-time in downtown Dallas during the day, and going to real estate school online. I was busy. At twenty-two, I decided to pursue real estate full time while I finished college. I had people tell me I was too young to be in real estate and I was unsure of the outcome but I was excited for the new adventure. I finally finished my bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas during my first year of being a realtor. That was a difficult year. After a year of helping clients buy and sell homes, I realized my true passion was helping people lease luxury high rise apartments in the city. The suburban life was not for me and I could not get passionate about helping people find homes. After this realization, my mentor/broker and I decided we should start a luxury apartment locating company with young fresh agents. With only one year in business, TopNotch Locating has 10 agents and is growing! I am now the business development manager of the company. I oversee marketing and events, recruiting new agents, training and managing TopNotch’ s agents.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road but I feel anything worth having will never be a smooth road. I thought getting through real estate school while working full time and going to school full time would be the hard part. I was wrong. I think having patience may have been the hardest part. When starting a business, you go through many obstacles while trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t for your business. Also, spending money when you really don’t have any coming in to get the company off the ground can be scary. When designing a brand, everything from the logo to the website has to be perfect. Also, being that our company is a real estate company we do have to make sure all everything falls in line with the Texas Real Estate Commission as far as marketing to the way we have our agents do business. I can see why so many small businesses only last a few years. You have to maintain a positive attitude from day one and have the big picture in mind or else you will get overwhelmed with all the details.

We are a luxury apartment locating company here in Texas. We help people find the best apartment for them with the best move in specials. Our company as a whole specializes in customer service. There are a ton of apartment locators out there and every locator offers something different. We take pride in keeping our clients informed on the process of finding and leasing a new apartment. We are up to date on what properties are doing what specials and we keep our clients in the loop. Something else that sets our locators a part is we do try to escort all of our clients to tour their favorite communities. We are apartment experts and we help our clients notice positive and negatives of each apartment community. We are known to be a young and fresh group of realtors who focus in luxury leasing. We LOVE social media. If you follow us on our Instagram page you will see we are always out and about looking at the newest apartments and getting actual footage of the available units on the market. We are most proud of how far we have gotten in such a short period of time. With only a year in business we already have the best group of agents out there. I think what sets us apart from other locators in the area is we will try and work with everyone no matter what your price range or previous rental history may be. We have clients that range from professional athletes to students getting their first apartment. We give each client the same service and take the time to find apartment communities that may work for them specifically instead of just sending over an auto generated list of apartments.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Dallas is a great place to start any business. We have so much opportunity and there are so many people from all over moving to the area and there is a reason! For someone just starting off in the apartment locating industry it is a great place to start as there are a ton of people needing apartments but there also is a huge amount of competition.
