Meet Jordan, Hannah, and Eden Henderson, and James Haynes of The High Moons in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan, Hannah, and Eden Henderson, and James Haynes.

Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The High Moons started with sisters Jordan and Hannah Henderson in Deep Ellum doing open mics just for fun. Their eerie harmonies and interesting covers set them apart, and people noticed pretty quickly. They began getting show offers and realized they needed a band name and a band. The High Moons name came to singer Jordan during a brainstorming session, and it just fit. Over the years they’ve added other female instrumentalists who have since come and gone and have now come to be a four-piece indie-gypsy-soul fusion. The current line up is made up of the three Henderson sisters and the only man ever invited to play with The High Moons. With Jordan Henderson (main vocals), Hannah Henderson (guitar/back up vocals), Eden Henderson (bass) and James Haynes (drums), The High Moons have a full, complete sound that brings incredible originals and swanky renditions of classics.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a rough road with a beautiful view. We have had four other members who aren’t performing with us anymore come and go, and that was painful. Each of the former members brought something so amazing that gave us a new sound and made us unique, so when we lost them, it was always difficult. We have had to redo our EP three times, and that is painful to the budget. We are still friends with each of the ladies who have come and gone and will always love them, but it definitely has been difficult to get through each time.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The High Moons – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are most known for Jordan and Hannah’s harmonies and mash-ups of covers of non-original music. People who request covers have coined a term “High Moons it,” which is basically their way of saying perform this but make it your eerie gypsy style. This is absolutely a huge compliment to us, and we love hearing it. We were nominated for a DOMA award in 2018 which was a big deal for us, even though we didn’t win we were like “wow people like our stuff” and it made everything worth it. Other proud moments for us have been performing at the Dallas Museum of Art and the annual Deep Ellum Arts Festival on the main stage.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are finishing our first EP this year and shooting our first music video with an amazing cast star-studded with local gems such and Veronica Young of Hungover with V, Valenti Funk of Stone Mecca and director Brent Forrester-Weir. Bringing in the third Henderson sister to add bass to the group is a big change, and we could not be more excited about it.
