Meet Jordan Johnston of Two Dogs Social in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Johnston.

Jordan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey is like many others. I started college at the University of Oklahoma with a major in Early Childhood Education. Keep in mind this was my third or fourth major. As I got deeper and deeper into the program, I realized this path just wasn’t for me. So here I was three years of school behind me, in debt and had no idea what I really wanted to do with my life. Even worse, I didn’t have the funds to keep throwing at my educational path. I had to figure something out. My father was an investor for a startup app based in the DFW area and they were looking for help with their social media presence. I was offered the job and moved to Dallas without ever looking back. This is where my love for digital marketing and all things social began. While working with the company, I was able to learn about coding, design work, editing, blogging and so much more. I found myself loving every moment of it and continued educating myself through online classes, blogs, YouTube videos, and webinars. I decided I wanted to help other businesses grow with my talents and started Two Dogs Social in 2016.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is the road ever smooth? Haha but in all honesty, it was very tough. Deciding to break off on your own is exciting but then reality hits in. Can I make my car payment this month? I just paid rent how is it due again?! I remember bartending and waiting tables for about six months after I started TDS to make ends meet. I would usually pull double shifts with a few hours of a break in between. During my break, I would work on TDS content and business growth and weekends were a thing of the past. I would bartend until 4am, get up early to work on TDS then back to the bar around 5pm. It was for sure a struggle. I had no social life and my relationships were struggling but I knew if just kept pushing it was going to take off. Fast forward a few years and things are much better but owning a business still has its struggles. You no longer have to just worry about yourself and I think for me that’s the scariest part. I was so fortunate to have the support of my husband and family. Without them, none of this would have been possible!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Two Dogs Social – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
When people hear the name of my company, they always give me a funny look. Do you walk dogs? Are you a pet sitter? So I always love sharing the history of our name with them. To start off, I am dog obsessed and that has rubbed off onto my family and husband as well! They say when you have a dog that has some sort of anxiety you’re supposed to bring in another dog to help calm them and relax them. Well, that’s what Two Dogs Social does. We’re your second dog when it comes to all of your digital marketing needs. We give you a leg up!

We began focusing on writing LinkedIn profiles for Financial Advisors as my father has a 30-year background in the financial world. He is also a LinkedIn Guru that teaches FA’s how to utilize LinkedIn for potential business. He coached me on the platform and because of his access to advisors, we started there. While writing profiles, we noticed that there is a need for automation. You can have the best profile out there, but if you don’t engage with your audience, then you won’t have any success online.

From there, we expanded to all things Digital Marketing. We provide website design, logos, PDFs, content creation, content curation, email marketing, lead generation, automation of your entire marketing strategy and more. While we have a large presence in the Financial World, we have expanded to many other fields as well.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely LOVE Dallas. I was born in Dallas but have lived all over the US. I always called Dallas home and knew I wanted to come back here one day. Our city is filled with friendly diverse faces who are welcoming to new ideas and always ready to support you. There’s so many areas I have yet to explore and I think that is what makes Dallas so unique. There’s always something new going on or a restaurant opening and our community always shows up to support! I could do with a few less scooters and bikes tho lol.
