Meet Jordan Pierce of Insight Eye Associates in Keller and North Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Pierce.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I graduated from University of Houston College of Optometry in May 2009. With a friend from class, Aaron Lee, OD, we opened our private office in March 2010. We started from scratch leasing and building out a space in Keller off North Tarrant Parkway. Over the seven-year lease we were able to grow from seeing one patient per day with one employee to ending 2016 with ten full time employees and both doctors seeing patients all day. Our gross revenue went from $57,000 in 2010 to just over $ 1 million in 2016. Our lease completed in November 2016 at which point we purchased land and built our current building. Our initial office size was 1900 sq. ft. with two exam rooms and one testing room. Our new office is 5600 sq. ft. with six exam rooms, two pretest rooms, three special testing rooms, and various other areas for clinic and optical.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The initial years of the office were not smooth. There was a lot of learning on my part for business acumen. I was trained in ocular medical knowledge. I didn’t know much about accounts receivable, bookkeeping, staff management, etc. We were also having to work at other optometry offices around DFW to provide ourselves with personal income. It took about five years for us to build up enough of a patient base at our office to stop having to work at other offices.

Please tell us about Insight Eye Associates.
Our office is an optometry clinic that treats patients of all ages. We diagnose, manage, and treat ocular medical conditions like dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, corneal abrasions, corneal foreign bodies, etc. We also diagnose and treat ocular refractive conditions and provide refractive correction with glasses and contact lenses.

We are known for treating the whole patient not just providing glasses and contact lenses. We receive referrals from primary care physicians, endocrinologists, ER physicians, and other optometry offices to help treat patients with ocular medical conditions. We co-manage ocular surgeries such as LASIK/cataract surgery with ophthalmologists. We are also known for our customer service and efficiency. We don’t make patients wait. We try to complete all exams and testing in an efficient/caring manner. I am most proud that people have reviewed our office as a place that cares about patients. We would rather help them with their ocular health than sell them a pair of glasses.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Playing soccer. I played growing up through high school, and it was always enjoyable.
