Meet Jorge Fernandez and Simon Veeren of Dulce Interior Consignment Showplace in Oak Lawn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Fernandez and Simon Veeren.

Jorge and Simon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Simon Veeren and my self-opened the shop in 2001 after the two of us moved to Dallas in 1996. Simon is from Guyana and was raised in New Jersey, was in the computer business. I was a dentist in Monterrey, Mexico before coming to the United States and working in antique restoration and decorative painting. We had a dream to open a furniture store and when Simon was laid off during a tech restructure, our dream came true. When we started, it was not too complex as we have a lot of artist and furniture builder’s friends.

When we opened in 2001 most of the existing consignments store where focused on antiques and we wanted to carry more modern and contemporary mixture of furniture and complement with the representations of local and top names artist from all over the word.

When we opened the store on this same location; we were a litter scare thinking that the space was too big at first but, after three months we thought it was not so big.

Walk into Dulce Interior Consignment Showplace today, return a week later and you may find yourself in an entirely different shop. The store is always changing. We receive furniture every day. We are always moving things to accommodate new items, and that keep the shop fresh for our regular customers. We have some regular customers who are here every week looking for that special piece for home or office and some of them affirm that all their house have been furnish with Dulce’s inventory.

Customers are drawn to Dulce for it exhaustive collection of high quality midcentury modern and contemporary furniture, art, lighting and accessories. The common tie with all our customers is that they are “Smart Shoppers” as they are trying to get high-quality, unique pieces without paying the retail price.

Has it been a smooth road?
Since we got the property on September 1st, 2001, the uncertainty after 9/11 occupied our thought and brought some fear but after that, all have been an exited ride that make us feel fortunate to have an enjoyable job and be able to know so many interesting and fun people.

We sell items for the home and office on consignment. Our company specialize in Contemporary and modern pieces; Mid-century to modern. Our objective is to provide a multitude of carefully selected items originating from a diverse variety of cultures, concepts, and lifestyles in order to help accentuate and personalize your home and office. Sofas, tables, chairs, rugs, chandelier, lamps, ethnic object, vases, glasses, plates, paintings, sculptures and much more. We are proud to serve this cosmopolitan city and be able to count with the preference of our regular and new costumers.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that the cost of living is very reasonable compared with other large cities. I do not like that the traffic have been increasing constantly in the city.

Pricing:

  • Pricing at Dulce is very important. When the items arrived the price is set around 40% to 50% off retail price depending on the quality, conditions and, current demand of the item. After 30 days the items are reduce by 20%.
