Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Rivers.
Joseph, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far. Photography was a big part of my life. My mom has tons of photos of me growing up as a child. She told me her obsession with taking photos of me spawned from her not having many photos of herself growing up. Having photos to look back at of me growing up around friends and family was such a normal occurrence to me, I could not imagine not having them around.
I believe it is important to keep a record of all events, no matter how big or small they are. Something that may seem insignificant at the time could end up transforming into a priceless heirloom generation later. It is my professional goal to capture all emotions ranging from shocking and anticipation to happiness and kindness. Having special occasions captured is important for families and corporations because reminiscing on great moments of the past brings the future closer together.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? The beginning of my photography career could be looked at as ‘a little bumpy’. Trying to build not only the knowledge and skills, but to reflect that confidence in front of clients was a challenge for me. I was very grateful to have mentors, colleagues, and friends to help support me along the way. Even knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t do anything any differently as the obstacles that were presented to me made me a better photographer and person.
Jay Sonata Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition? I own Jay Sonata Photography. I am a lifestyle and event photographer. I strive to document the smiles, laughter, and love shown during events to create an artistic story to preserve the memories for generations. I specialize in family events such as birthday parties, baby showers. and get-together’s. I am proud of the impact and memories I am able to preserve for the families I photograph. I was once told that I blend in and move around the event unnoticed well. I believe my skill to be able to disappear in the background sets me apart from others as they allow me to get genuine laughter, smiles and excitement. Candid photos are my favorite to capture.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on? I recently moved to Plano, TX and I had a previous client in Atlanta, GA commenting that they loved the photos I did for them some time ago. They really missed me and wanted me to move back.
