Hi Josh, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello everyone, my name is Josh Sanabria and I am a veterinarian in Addison, Texas. I go by Dr. Josh, since it is easier to say! Ever since I was a kid, I have always been passionate about helping animals. This, along with my love for science, naturally translated into my goal of becoming a veterinarian. Coming from a family with financial and educational limitations, I knew my path would be challenging, but this was a blessing because it pushed me to work harder to surpass challenges and achieve my goals. I also come from the island of Puerto Rico and having Spanish as my native language certainly added to the challenges I would encounter to study veterinary medicine in the United States. That being said, I have always welcomed challenges and they only fueled my determination to become a veterinarian. After working very hard to complete my doctoral studies, I finally became a veterinarian in 2012, and fast forward to 2019, I was able to open my own practice in Addison, Texas: Isla Veterinary Boutique Hospital. Along with an amazing team, I am the proud owner of an award-winning veterinary hospital and I am very proud of my devotion and commitment to help animals and their families.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It certainly has been a bumpy road! My biggest struggles over time were the language barrier and the lack of role models to help me or inspire me. Financial limitations were another struggle I encountered in my path, along with BEING A homosexual in a culture where there are still acceptance issues. That being said, I have a supporting community and chosen family that help make this journey less bumpy for sure!

Isla Veterinary Boutique Hospital is a brand-new concept in veterinary medicine that focuses on not only offering excellent quality of medicine to our patients, but also focuses on providing a white glove treatment to our clientele. We also strive to provide a safe environment for minorities to know they are heard and seen. We have established ourselves as a unique hospital that brings the small-town family veterinarian experience to the big city. We have won 5 awards as Best Veterinarian in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the short 3 years since we opened our doors. We will continue to strive to provide outstanding services while positively changing the culture and future of our community.

As a veterinary hospital, we have an amazing team and clientele that collaborate with us and support us. We are also very proud of being openly LGBT-friendly, especially since the owner (Dr. Josh) is openly and proudly gay.
