Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Joshua. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing photography about 12 years ago. I was actually training to be a professional wrestler but I ended up getting hurt and couldn’t start my wrestling journey right away. I talked to the companies ringside photographer about it. I bought one of his old camera’s from him and started shooting. I was immediately hooked. I started shooting their shows every weekend. I actually shot shows for WWE Hall of Famer Booker T in Houston, TX. I have also worked for WWE and Impact Wrestling. I started working for a few different magazines. I also worked for a few local fashion shows and modeling agencies. I can’t say its always been a cake walk. I have struggled time and time again. I have even been so dejected I quick shooting, sold my equipment and just plain gave up. My passion and love for photography has always brought me back. I did however stop doing photography and started doing videography for a few years. I bought a camera that does both video and photo so I decided why not do both of my passions. I have now worked on quite a few movies. You can actually watch them on Amazon Prime and some were even sold at Wal-Marts. I now have been able to travel and do what I love. Of course, it’s still a struggle but worth it to do something I love.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been plenty of struggles. There always will be in this kind of business. This is a very difficult business to make it in. There’s a ton of competition and plenty of photographers that just pop up. I have had my gear stolen before at an even. Over $3,000 worth of gear. I still got out there and worked my way back from it.
Deep Shadows Pictures – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I basically, built my company on my own. I am a photographer/videographer. With an extensive client list. I’m known for my style. It’s always been called unique. People always say it stands out from others. What sets me apart is my pricing for the amount of work and quality I give.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been quite a few. I’ve won a few awards for my photography and videography. I’ve met some great people as well. I would say being hired by one of my all-time favorite bands, Black Veil Brides, to shoot their show. I was the only photographer they hired. It was definitely a great achievement.
