Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Dontae.
Joshua, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started photography eight years ago when a mentor for the Bethlehem community signed me up for a photography class. I didn’t want to do it until I found out I would be getting a free camera after completing the course.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggles I’ve faced in the past were allowing other people to dictate my passion. Being told because photography didn’t bring money in at the moment, it’s not worth doing. Which kept me off and on with photography. I’m 26 now, and I’m just now getting my groove I still feel like an amateur. My now struggles are creative blocks, not having confidence in my work and the regrets of not knowing where I could have been if I didn’t allow others mindset stop me from starting eight years ago.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Visuals by Dontae – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a faith-based photographer and YouTuber. I created Visuals By Dontae as a photography company but the further I grow in Christ, I realize that “Visuals” is more profound than creating photos and film. It’s sharing the journey and lifestyle as a Christian.
I specialize in lifestyle, editorial photography. What makes me different from others is keeping God as the center of my business.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for Visuals by Dontae is to create a platform where I can help and inspire other creatives to grow their business. I want to be able to help fund the start-up of companies; in this season of my business it’s hard to build clientele, and purchase equipment that will help push my brand. I want to be that resource for others who decide to create even if it’s not in the photography field.
