Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Wilson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was in the Air Force for a couple of years, and in the Army for eight years. I was medically retired from the Army in 2012. I had no idea what I was going to do with my life! I had no college education, and the only experience I had would leave me to do security jobs. I went to my local stereo shop in Anchorage, Alaska and swept the floors for $10/hour to get my foot in the door. I did some car audio training at the Installer Institute in 2013 to further my knowledge, and my life changed from there. I managed a car audio shop in Soldotna, Alaska for a few years, I met my wife and we started our family. We decided to make the journey to Texas in 2016. We lived in San Antonio for a year and fell in love with Dallas on a trip to attend a car show. We moved to Dallas in June 2017. We lived in Lake Dallas for about a year and I worked at a few different audio shops. I realized Dallas needed an Auto shop that offered everything in one place. I have had this dream for a long time, I just couldn’t find the right place to start the shop. After many months of searching, we found a lack of our business idea in Wylie, TX. We have been open since May 2, 2018, and we are having our 1 Year Anniversary party on May 18, 2019! We are a Veteran-led organization, and take pride in our work! We offer the best products and service in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning your own business is never as smooth as it looks! We have had some ups and downs along the way but more ups! This is the first business that I have owned so its been a learning curve. We have great vendors that back us 100%. We have made some silly decisions that later we realized were not worth it, but I wouldn’t go back and change anything! If I do not make mistakes, in the beginning, I will have never learned. I am always learning something new, and it shows in everyday business. Automobiles are ever-changing, nothing is the same on any two vehicles so that keeps me constantly learning new things as well!

I definitely have to thank my mentor the owner of Safe & sound in Anchorage, Alaska Terry Spessard. He gave a military Veteran with no experience a job that eventually turned into where I am today! My wife is a big supporter of what I do and I thank her for being patient and taking care of our children while I work crazy hours. I also thank my team members for their hard work and dedication. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to bring great service to the Dallas Fort Worth area! The people of Wylie specifically are great and have accepted us with open arms, it’s great when a new business starts to thrive in a new place. We feel like we fit in and are accepted!
