Today we’d like to introduce you to Josie Bee.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Josie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started after graduating from college with my Bachelor’s degree. I was always a perfectionist student ever since elementary. Dean’s List, honor roll, you name it, my name was on it. I was always an overachiever. But that started to get boring. Excelling in academics gave me joy, but not joy for my SOUL. After graduating from college, I took a small break before being convinced to go to grad school. Everyone said that was the next step to success, but I honestly didn’t believe that.
I started Grad school and it was truly one of the most trying experiences I’ve had thus far. But that time also served as enlightenment. I finally realized and accepted that the whole school and corporate world was NOT for me. I absolutely hated going to class and I cried almost every day from the torture. It felt like I was in jail, being forced into a place I didn’t want to be. I finally gathered the courage to quit. I didn’t care anymore about what anyone thought. This was my life and I was going to fulfill my own version of happiness. That same week I enrolled in Cosmetology school. Best decision of my life. I finally felt free.
During my time in Cosmetology school, I really began to see who I really was behind that perfectionist academic student— I was a creator. I realized that I always had a vision of who and where I wanted to be and worked hard to get there. I fell in love with the possibilities of doing something I love while also helping people discover their beauty. I began working on my brand and skills while in school so that when I finished, I was ready to jump out there feet first into the wonderful world of entrepreneurship.
Since then, everything has been a learning experience. From establishing my business to growing and maintaining my business, I am learning as I go. I am hungry for the knowledge because I know the same way I achieved those perfect grades in school, I can use that same energy to create the business and lifestyle of my dreams.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth the whole way. Sometimes, it looks as if nothing is changing or advancing. That can easily become a reason to just give up. That’s why being clear in your purpose and supporting vision is so important. There has to be something to keep you going.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I definitely would have taken a business major in college. That extent of knowledge would have definitely helped me throughout the entrepreneurial process. I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Industrial Technology and haven’t used it once since graduating in 2013.
