Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Weaver.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After graduating college and working for a large professional firm heading up corporate communication and teaching customer service, I realized there are many basics in life that are never taught. We are expected to give five-star service with only three-star training. How can we know what we don’t know?
I became interested in teaching etiquette when I was asked to teach an etiquette class to a group of sixth graders in an after-school program. I started to look for an etiquette class to take and could not find one.
I started to read etiquette books and realized each differed in the answers to etiquette questions, and the answers were basically the author’s opinion. That’s when I found the Protocol School of Washington D.C. It was eight days and eight nights of hardcore etiquette boot camp, which prepared me for any question or situation to come my way.
I came back to Dallas and landed my first client – the world’s largest construction firm! (yes – you read that correctly) It all started there, and still to this day over half of my client base is male-dominated firms. I teach business etiquette and social etiquette to companies, universities, Churches, and non-profits across the nation,
As a keynote speaker, my message has spread the globe and resonated with all audiences. I was on Good Morning Texas for nine years and on most every national morning show polishing this world from the inside out. My book is called Socially Savvy.
It is 52 tip and faux pas lists in business and social situations. It is highly endorsed by the great Zig Ziglar. Seriously – you just can’t make this stuff up! I am the most least likely person to teach etiquette because growing up I was an orphan and now I’m known as The Etiquette Expert.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road less traveled is never smooth.
Try telling someone you are an etiquette expert and see if they can figure out what that means. Many think etiquette is about which fork to use. My programs are more than manners, they are fast-paced, hardcore customer relation sessions.
Word of mouth is my marketing tool. One client refers me to another because the results of my message speak for itself.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your story. Tell us more about the business. What sets you apart from others?
I am an etiquette expert – polishing companies from the inside out. It is hardcore customer service, starting with the individual, then their internal customer and then the external customer.
Clients range from Coca-Cola, Raytheon, Sprint, to Churches and National Charity Leagues across the nation. My programs create a positive work culture, so there is lower employee turnover, increased customer retention, which increases company profitability.
What sets me apart is my high-energy and fun style of presenting a topic that could be Ummm-well… considered old school. Ask anyone who has taken my sessions – they will never forget the information and will use it for a lifetime.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
No luck, just God’s goodness in every area of my life. He gave me this business and has opened doors only He could open. I couldn’t have figured all this out in ten lifetimes. He gets all the glory!
