Meet Joyjane Eseh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyjane Eseh.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a recent undergrad, on my way to PA school. Art has always been a part of me for as long as I can remember from dance to drawing and just creating things in general. I decided to pour some energy into my art in my gap year which eventually led to me starting my business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a relatively smooth road. I am lucky enough to have individuals that support me and also guide me through the process. It is a bit of a struggle to gain an online presence, social media was never really my thing and now it’s one of the necessities for my business, I’m definitely working towards building a bigger audience to share my work with.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started my business with an inclination to create and serve others in a manner that inspires confidence. Jane’s Arts & Crafts provides high-quality statement earrings made out of polymer clay along with other mediums (glass beads, resin, etc.). Each piece is handcrafted and unique to its owner which is really what makes the so special. I also make digital illustrations that highlights black women, children, and my African heritage on some level which I sell on red bubble in various merchandise. Prints, Notebooks, phone cases, mousepads, blankets, and so on.

We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking?
There is no one-size-fits-all when is comes to risk-taking but I do believe everything about life involves risks. By taking risks, we find opportunities to reach our goals and even achieve something greater than ourselves. I took a risk starting this business with no official business background but being able to share my creations with others and put a smile on their faces with something I created is an opportunity I would never trade away. Art remains a big part of my life because of the genuine fulfillment.
