Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan and Beth Duenas.
Juan and Beth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Juan started his cabinet company with his brother, Sergio, and his dad, Juan Sr., in 2008, which is the same year I got my real estate license and started working alongside my parents, Gayla and Bill Bevans.
Years later I was managing a gym on top of working with my family in real estate part-time. Juan and Sergio came in to join the gym. I didn’t think much of it then but later ran into Juan at a local bar while out with girlfriends. We danced and he bought me a drink. After that night he asked me out several times and with persistence, I finally agreed.
On our first date we completely hit it off and he got down on one knee and proposed six months later. My daughter and I moved in with Juan and my home became a rental property. We got married less than a year later.
Right after we got married their cabinet business was struggling. They had taken on a huge project in Ft. Worth and were never paid for their work. They were on the verge of bankruptcy and it was a rough time but they worked hard to get out of it and they did.
During all of this, construction stopped on Juan Sr.’s home and Sergio refinanced his home to complete the project. Juan Sr. then sold his home to help the company. We then decided to sell our home and move into our rental property to invest in building and GC Living was born.
A year later Juan Sr.’s new home is complete, Sergio sold his home to eliminate the debt from refinancing and his new home in now under construction. We plan to start construction on our new home in the next year or two.
There have been so many moving parts to get us where we are now and everyone has played a role. Juan’s side of the family handles the construction, my side of the family handles all real estate aspects of the business, and Juan and I are designing these projects together.
We are building beautiful custom homes in our community and we were recently nominated as one of the top three builders in Best of Ellis County. We are loving what we do and have no doubt that this was all in God’s grand plan for our family.
Has it been a smooth road?
We believe every company encounters challenges and obstacles along the way and we definitely have experienced some ourselves. It’s how you work as a team to overcome those obstacles that counts.
