Meet Judith & William Biney of Kidokinetics Mansfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judith & William Biney.

Hi Judith & William, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello – We are William and Judith Biney, the proud owners of Kidokinetics Mansfield. In 2023, we chose to bring Kidokinetics to Mansfield, Arlington, and surrounding areas because we believe every child deserves the chance to move, play, and build confidence in a fun, non-competitive environment. We were drawn to the program’s focus on helping kids fall in love with an active lifestyle and helping families understand the importance of motor skills in whole child development. With our own passion for staying active and supporting families in our community, we knew this was the perfect way to give back and make a positive impact close to home.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and we think it’s important to be honest about that.

When we launched Kidokinetics Mansfield, we believed deeply in the mission. We knew kids needed movement, confidence, and exposure to a variety of sports in a world that increasingly pulls them toward screens. What we underestimated was how much resilience it would take to build awareness, earn trust, and create consistent enrollment from the ground up.

One of the biggest challenges has been visibility. You can have an incredible program, but if families don’t know you exist or don’t fully understand the value, growth doesn’t happen. There have been seasons where we poured energy into emails, calls, school visits, demos, and community events without seeing immediate results. That can be discouraging. But it pushed us to refine our messaging, invest in real relationships, and think long-term about brand building rather than chasing quick wins.

Staffing has also been a major learning curve. Finding coaches who not only understand sports but also genuinely connect with young children is critical. We’ve learned that character and culture fit matter just as much as athletic skill. The right coach can completely transform a class experience.

We’ve also faced operational setbacks. At one point, we lost our entire social media account and had to rebuild from zero. It felt like losing years of momentum overnight. But instead of seeing it as defeat, we chose to see it as an opportunity to rebuild stronger and be more intentional about how we tell our story.

The road has required grit, adaptability, and faith. But every challenge has sharpened us as business owners and strengthened our commitment to families. When we see a child master a new skill, try something for the first time, or grow in confidence, it reminds us why we started. The struggles have been real, but so has the impact.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kidokinetics Mansfield is a sports enrichment and physical education organization dedicated to children ages 1 to 10. We partner with preschools, daycares, Montessori schools, elementary schools, homeschool groups, after-school programs, community centers, and families across the Mansfield and greater DFW area to bring structured, fun, multi-sport programming directly to where kids already are.

At our core, we help kids fall in love with movement by making fitness and sports fun, inclusive, and confidence-building. Each class introduces a new sport or activity on a rotating basis, from soccer and basketball to golf, volleyball, track and field, pickleball, and agility challenges. This variety is intentional. Broad exposure builds well-rounded motor skills, improves coordination, and keeps kids engaged rather than overwhelmed or pressured to specialize too early.

We specialize in early childhood and elementary development, focusing on foundational skills such as balance, agility, hand-eye coordination, listening, teamwork, and perseverance. Our approach is age-appropriate and structured, but always playful. For our youngest participants, classes are imaginative and movement-focused. For elementary students, we add more skill progression, teamwork, and sport-specific fundamentals while keeping the environment positive and encouraging.

What sets us apart is intentionality. Every activity is thoughtfully designed. Every coach is selected not only for athletic ability, but for character, patience, and the ability to genuinely connect with children. We prioritize effort over performance and create spaces where kids feel safe to try, miss, improve, and try again. We also bring all equipment and curriculum to our partner sites, making it seamless for schools and convenient for families.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of the trust we have built in our community. Schools invite us back. Parents refer us to their friends. Kids ask when Coach is coming again. That consistency tells us we are doing more than running sports drills. We are creating positive experiences that build confidence and leave a lasting impact.

We want readers to know that Kidokinetics is more than a sports program. It is a movement confidence builder. It is structured, joyful physical activity in a time when children need it more than ever. Whether through weekly classes, PE partnerships, camps, or community events, our goal is simple. Help kids move and grow with confidence and discover what they are capable of.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the biggest learnings for us was realizing that mentorship is not about finding one perfect person who guides every step of your journey, but that it is about building a circle. Different mentors serve different purposes. Some challenge your thinking. Some open doors. Some simply listen and offer perspective when things feel heavy. Being clear about what you need at a particular stage makes it much easier to identify who to approach.

We have also leaned heavily on other owners who operate in similar businesses. There is something powerful about learning from people who understand the day-to-day realities of enrollment cycles, staffing challenges, marketing hurdles, and community partnerships. Instead of viewing others as competition, we have chosen to view them as collaborators and learning partners. Those conversations have saved us time, helped us avoid mistakes, and pushed us to think bigger.

When it comes to networking, what has worked best for us is leading with curiosity rather than asking for something. We reach out to learn, not to pitch. We ask thoughtful questions. We follow up. We stay in touch even when there is no immediate transaction attached. Relationships compound over time.

Another thing that has made a difference is being willing to add value first. Whether that means connecting two people, sharing a resource, or volunteering to help at a community event, generosity builds credibility. People remember how you made them feel and whether you showed up consistently.

We also believe proximity matters. Attending local events, school functions, chamber gatherings, and community meetups has been powerful for growing both our business and our network. Face-to-face interaction builds trust in a way that digital communication cannot replace.

Our biggest advice is to not wait until you feel fully ready. Reach out while you are still building. Most experienced leaders are willing to share their journey if you approach them respectfully and come prepared.
