Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Kim.
Julia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We came to Dallas about 8 years ago and my husband is from China. He used to work at a bank in China but couldn’t really find a suitable job at a financial institution in Dallas so he decided to go back to a school and learn massage skills and he became a massage therapist. After working a couple of years at the massage spa, he opened the spa himself. It has been 2 years now since we opened our own spa and we are enjoying our new business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At first, it wasn’t easy. Since it was new business, it wasn’t known to people so our business was really slow. When first opened, maybe we had one or two customers a day, which got us worried and made us to think that it is better to close or sell this business at very low price.
Silk Touch Massage Spa – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a massage spa where we provide massage service tailored to your needs. We provide Swedish to deep tissue massage. We also have foot reflexology service. Not only that, we have hot stone and cupping services as well as aroma therapy and ear candling. Most massage spa provides massage and hot stone services but we believe that we are the only spa in DFW that has cupping and ear candling services.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Many people might think that success is making lots of money. But we have a different value. Success is being happy and healthy and having a good relationship with people around you. Although we might not be making a fortune, we are happy that we have a family to share things and that we are relatively healthy and that we have good and close relationship with our friends. And we are grateful for the gift of life.
