Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Dykema.
Julie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Julie Dykema, the founder of Designer Liner. My entrepreneurial journey began in the world of professional organization—helping clients redesign, declutter, and arrange their homes for flow and function. Through that work, one consistent pain point kept showing up: we found that store-bought liners were flimsy, time-consuming to cut, and lacked the quality homeowners wanted for their beautifully finished spaces.
As I accompanied clients through moves, renovations, and everyday wear-and-tear, I realized there was a real need for a specialized, elegant solution to protect and beautify cabinet interiors. That insight led me to pivot: instead of simply organizing what’s already there, why not create a product that safeguards the very foundation—the drawers and shelves—while elevating the space?
So I founded Designer Liner, a company solely focused on providing premium cabinet and drawer liners (along with full installation) that solve a problem many people don’t even realize they have. From the beginning, I committed to:
Precision and quality — every liner is machine cut, tear-resistant, won’t yellow over time, and is available in clear or textured finishes.
A turnkey experience — from measurement to order to installation, we handle every detail, ensuring every space is protected and beautifully finished without the client lifting a finger.
Protecting investments — we aim to reduce the stress and cost homeowners face when cabinetry gets damaged.
Today, Designer Liner continues to grow through strong partnerships and word of mouth. What began as a practical fix has evolved into a refined service that blends function and design, helping homeowners protect what they love most.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of our biggest challenges has been that homeowners don’t know this type of service exists—so they don’t yet know to want it.
We’re not only launching a new brand, but also introducing an entirely new category to the home industry. Our goal is for custom cabinet liners to become as standard and expected as window treatments or blinds during a build or renovation. Getting there takes a lot of education, awareness, and conversion—but every client who experiences it becomes our best advocate.
We’ve been impressed with Designer Liner, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Designer Liner is the first and only company dedicated exclusively to custom-cut cabinet and drawer liners. We specialize in protecting and elevating the interior surfaces of cabinetry with precision-cut liners that are beautiful, durable, and completely tailored to each home. Our liners are tear-resistant, non-adhesive, and machine-cut for a flawless fit—no wrinkles, bubbles, or trimming required.
What sets us apart is our turnkey process. We measure, design, cut, and install every liner so homeowners and designers don’t have to lift a finger. It’s a small detail that makes a huge difference in keeping cabinetry looking new for years.
We’re most proud that we’ve created something that didn’t exist before—a luxury service that blends form and function. Our clients often say they never realized how much they needed this until they saw it installed. That moment of surprise and delight is what we’re known for.
At the heart of our brand is a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and care for the homes we touch. We want readers to know that Designer Liner isn’t just about protecting cabinetry—it’s about preserving the investment, beauty, and longevity of the spaces people love most.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always organized to my core—probably to no one’s surprise. I was the kid who made lists for fun and kept a handwritten ledger of what I wore each day (can you say girl?). I rearranged my bedroom constantly and even color-coordinated my friends’ closets for fun.
Whether it was rallying friends to be in my American Girl club, dressing in theme for every occasion, or reading recipe books just to daydream about party planning, I was always creating something. I loved bringing people together and finding little ways to make ordinary moments feel special. Sports played a big role too—I was the point guard in basketball and the setter in volleyball, which probably explains my tendency to organize people and plays both on and off the court.
Pricing:
- To start the process, there is a $200 design/measurement appointment fee, payable upfront (nonrefundable). That fee is applied toward the final project total.
- On average, liners run $25–$35 per shelf or drawer (smaller liners may be less than $25; larger ones may be more).
- We operate on custom quotes—each job is priced based on the size, quantity of liners, and material choice.
