So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you kick things off for us by covering the key parts of the story?
Sure, we sell bike stuff. Do bike things. We take you on tours, fix your flats and we’ll even rent you a bike if you need it. Truth is, we do all of the things a great bike shop does. And we do it pretty damn well. We’re gearheads. We sit around talking drivetrains. Yeah, we love bikes. A lot. But, for us, it’s not the bike that matters most, it’s what the bike represents, what it gives and what it can do. Those things are at the heart of Local Hub Bicycle Co. It’s a freedom that connects strangers. An experience that finds the undiscovered, both in the city and in each other. It’s a cold beer with new friends after a long ride. Its sunsets and chill, wind and laughter. It’s being a part of something much larger than a group ride. And doing something much more than cruising. For us, cycling isn’t a lifestyle. It’s life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a brick and mortar retail business in this day and age is always going to be tough. There is a lot to compete with online but we believe we provide things that you can’t get outside of our shop. Besides the ability to touch and feel the products, get out on a test ride, and great mechanics; we believe we’ve built a place to bring people together. Whether you’re at our store or on the road, we give cyclists — young and old, rookies and pros — the chance at social discovery. From new people to new places or trying new things, our environment, our service and our bikes open some pretty cool doors throughout the city.

Local Hub Bicycle Co. lives in the heart of Deep Ellum. Our store, our events, our passion and our people connect us with a unique community of businesses and individuals that promote cycling, the city and all the camaraderie that comes with it. We specialize in urban commuting style bikes. While we all enjoy the fitness you get from riding a bicycle it’s not always about speed and distance. We provide the bikes, accessories and service needed to get you around town.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Many bikes shops have a reputation that you have to be a hard core biker to come to the shop. We strive to create an environment that anyone is comfortable in. It’s all about getting more riders on the streets and we’ll do whatever we can to help that cause. That all starts with great customer service and making sure everyone that walks through the door feels welcome.
