Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Taylor.
Justin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in photography by following various people through social media, seeing creative images and I wanted to learn how they got that particular shot. I bought my first DSLR, a Canon 60D, and began to just play around. As I posted to social media, I began to get inquiries from people asking me to shoot their birthday dinners, baby showers, and etc. More work began to come in and I decided to turn it into a business. I received a lot of love and encouragement from people close to me which has brought me to being the photographer I am today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, I have nothing to complain about through this journey of becoming a professional photographer. I’m blessed and I’ve enjoyed every moment of the process because each step has taught me a valuable lesson. I think the biggest struggle for me has been growing my clientele. I know it will come in due time, but I’m working hard daily to improve my skill, provide quality images, and attempt to create an experience for my clients that will make them want to use me for all of their photography needs. Referrals from clients and posting to social media has helped me out a lot. I can’t thank my clients enough for all of the referrals they’ve given me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Taylor Media Photography – what should we know?
Photography is a passion of mine. I love capturing special moments, being able to look back at them and bringing back that happy feeling of when it was taken. If I had to choose a specialty, I’d definitely say weddings. I love LOVE and being able capture their day is what I love about photography. My goal is to create a story from the beginning to end with every image taken. I want people who weren’t able to make it to feel like they were there once they see the images. I’m known for quality and that’s what I strive to provide above anything else. Even though weddings are my specialty, I’m happy to say that I’m versatile when it comes to different types of photography whether it be lifestyle, families, graduating seniors, events, studio photography. It doesn’t matter, I’m able to adapt to any setting and venue.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I must say that I owe all of my credit of being the photographer I am today to my mentor Deira Lacy (D.Lacy)…He has helped me every step of the way. For the longest, I was looking for a photography mentor and he welcomed me with open arms. I’m forever grateful and thankful for him. I know I got on his nerves from time to time when I first started learning from him. I wanted to be in the studio and at every shoot he had so I could learn. I had a thirst for knowledge and was willing to do whatever it took to be a successful photographer. My business has grown exponentially within the last year thanks to his willingness to help. He’s a very selfless person.
