Meet K.Rene Ford of Botany Society Preservations

Today we’d like to introduce you to K.Rene Ford.

Hi K.Rene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been exploring art my entire life. I always dreamed of owning a business, made up different shops as a kid. Then, 10 years ago I started working on making something real. A buisness that could be done at home with my new baby. I tried out a few ideas and preserved botanicals were the most inspiring to me.
Our early designs were framable herbariums & flower/petal mandalas. We were attending craft shows and even teaching pressed flower classes.
This is when we were asked to preserve our first bouquet! The designs in the beginning were framed in our antique frames.
A year after beginning our preservation business, we added resin art. Making spoons, small trays + coasters. I favor creating functional art designs that can be both visually beautiful and enjoyable to utilize. This took us to the next level
Now we make some of the most unique preserved bouquet designs anywhere and continue to break the mold by venturing into new designs while also maintaining the classic framed pieces

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most challenging aspect of this preservation business has been perfecting the resin finish. Working with dry flowers and resin together, a lot of air bubbles occur within the design. Some cure at the surface, on the bottom or even on the edges. Sanding and filling in the holes is mandatory to create beautiful heirloom quality art.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Botany Society we create inspired custom preserved botanical art specializing in resin artistry. Making a lot of our own silicone molds allows us to maintain the most unique designs on the market! While we primarily work with preserving fresh bridal bouquets and memorial flowers our artist has unique ready to buy collections listed on her Etsy that include flowers, butterflies, fruits, shells and more!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband has been a huge help with the resin part of my business. Working in the classic car industry as a fabricator for over 20 years, he has a wealth of knowledge about making molds, working with resin as well as finishing. Without him, i may have given up on creating resin art!
